    Hello chaps

I have a bit of an embarasing request
Would anyone be kind enough to help me out of some technical difficulties. I have been trying to convert my WWII Europe, Ancient Rome and Balkans scenarios to ToT but I am too dull to get to grips with it. Before I smash up my computer in a frustrated rage could someone step in and save me?

I have no idea how much work is required to convert to ToT so I may be asking too much! If anyone is willing to help though I would be very grateful.

The WWII scn needs a full conversion and then I will modify it for its second incarnation.

The Ancient one only needs the map and initial cities placements swapped over. I will sort out the graphics, events etc at a later date.

The Balkans one is not so important as I may well stick woth MGE for its first release and do a ToT version later on.

The Vietnam scenario is still my main project but I often have ideas for these other projects and like to add them as they pop into me noggin.

I'm no expert but maybe you should just run them through the TOT converter program first and then work on updating the graphics first. The other main thing would be to upgrade the events.

I extracted the Civ-Converter utility into a folder called converter.

I copied a folder called DICTATOR into the converter directory.

        DICTATOR contains a CIV2-SCN file called D3.scn.

So, the command you enter in the Windows 'Run...' box is:

        c:\CIV2\converter\civconverter c:\CIV2\converter\DICTATOR\D3.scn

        Method 1:
        a) Start Menu -> Run... (or Windows key + R)
        b) To convert: c:\unzipped\civconverter\civconverter c:\unzipped\scenario\scenario.scn

        Method 2:
        a) Start Menu -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt
        b) To change directory: cd c:\unzipped\civconverter
        c) To convert: civconverter c:\unzipped\scenario\scenario.scn

        Method 3:
        a) Get Microsoft's PowerToys for Windows XP. It contains various unofficial enhancements for XP,
one of which adds the Command Prompt to the menu when you right-click a directory (folder).
The prompt will automatically start in that directory.

        b) Right-click the c:\unzipped\civconverter folder.
        c) Select Open Command Window Here.
        d) To convert: civconverter c:\unzipped\scenario\scenario.scn

        Hope this helps!

you can also create a short cut of the civconverter application.
You put a copy of the file with the scenario to be converted with the root of the application.
a click right on the short cut, then in the properties of the short cut to put the line of order for example:
          C:\jeux\conv\CivConverter.exe C:\jeux\conv\fmk\1939.scn
          Attached Files

            Thanks Guys

Armed with this info I am sure I can work it out. I tend to give up easily when faced with computer problems!

One of the problems with CivConvertor is the read me which I found hard to follow. Sounds like a really nifty programe though

              Still not getting it!!!

I have tried every different combination of:
              c:CIV2\converter\CivConverter c:CIV2\converter\CivConverter\ANCIENT ROME\ANCIENT.scn and still not a sausage

All I keep getting is 'the system cannot find the path specified'. I know a bit of trial and error may be required but now I have been trying for ages and still getting nowhere.

              WTF

The ANCIENT.scn is in a folder called ANCIENT ROME which is kept in the CivConverter file in the main C: drive folder. What am I doing wrong? I tried removing the words CIV2 and converter but it made no difference!

Is the ANCIENT ROME folder (with ANCIENT.scn file within) actually in the 'converter' folder?

Keep in mind that the folder that 'converter' is in on my system happens to be 'CIV2'...

You can have the 'converter' folder on root C: if you wish.

                The the line would read:

                c:\converter\CivConverter c:\converter\CivConverter\ANCIENT ROME\ANCIENT.scn

If you have the 'converter' folder in your own CIV2 directory, make sure you are using the correct path.

                EG: 'Program Files/Microprose/CIV2'...Or whatever.

Progress. I am now getting a different error message (see below). The only files I have in the ANCIENT ROME folder are ANCIENT.scn and RULES because there are no events yet. Is that the problem?

It may be the space in "ANCIENT ROME" that confuses CivConverter. Does
                    "c:\converter\CivConverter c:\converter\CivConverter\ANCIEN~1\ANCIENT.scn"
                    work?

Or perhaps you can go the the "ANCIENT ROME" folder and try "..\CivConverter Ancient.scn".

                      Try this:

                      c:\converter\CivConverter "c:\converter\CivConverter\ANCIENT ROME\ANCIENT.scn"

In general, you should quote any file or path name that contains a space.

                        Still no joy (Bo Ho!!!)

I tried loads of alternatives. I tried renaming folder "ANCIENTROME". I copied it from the Crive again. Nada

I will try the WWII scenario and see if that is any different!

Maybe you can try set the name of files/folder to LESS then 8 letters...with old SW sometimes must be used old rules..

                            u can try
C:\> cd converter + enter ( Change Directory form Dos commands ... and go in the folder)
                            then "cd CivConverter\"
                            and u shell have this..
                            c:\converter\CivConverter\
                            Now..
try to have a list of files with: dir *.* (+ enter)
so u ll see the REAL name that shell be used.. that maybe is similar to :
                            ANCIEN~1\ANCIENT.scn
cause long ago files/folder could not have names longer then 8 letters...

(NOOOOO.. edit my post.. forget it.. i just you are near solution.. and the file name is not THE problem..

                              THREE CHEERS FOR ME...HORAY!!!

Only kidding. Nice one guys. I finally managed to get the Ancient one to convert. I feel a corner has been turned. The command that worked was: c:\converter\CivConverter c:\converter\ROME\ANCIENT.scn

I had renamed the folder to ROME and deleted the word CivConverter in the second line. Now I can crack on with my reorganization

Just got to fix my Vietnam scenario and I am back on track.

                              Thanks a lot
