  • Could a hex wizard look at this file?

    Hi there!

Been testing out Dictator v6.0, and while most of the civs play rather well (some play very well!)
I have noticed my old pal, the light blue civ (America/Persia/China) is being totally unresponsive
and refusing to fight, even when an enemy unit is placed right next door to their capital.

Natually, for a WW2 scenario with tons of events that rely on the USA getting out and fighting
other AIs, this is a bit of a hamstring on everything. I am wondering if there is some hex-based
thing wrong, perhaps caused by a tech or government choice...?

I am thinking the map and seed of various tiles might be a factor?

Could any of our hex-orientated regulars could shed some light on the situation?

    My only other options are:

    1)
Review the tech choices and see if one is causing the light blue civ to be so pacifist.

    2)
Switch the light blue civ with the purple civ.

    3)
Rebuild the scenario from the ground up, with a new map.

Not sure what to do, as this is a scenario-breaking problem.

Any help or opinions would be appreciated!

    PS
    Save file included...

I had the same problem this week while testing Lost Legions! I solved it with the "modifyreputation" event action! It transformed a sheep into a wolf!

Of course, this was only possible because I didn't need any diplomacy between the 2 civs, and so it made no problem that one was considered a betrayer by the other!

Nonetheless, it's an interesting event, as this "wrong" reputation can be made to be considered only by 1 selected civ!

You can change in the rules-file under Leaders the settings of the different civs. I would set them to aggressive for the lightblue Civ.

It could be also a problem with the special AI settings for WWII scenario which you can enable in the cheat menu.
In Micropose original WWII scenario the lightblue Civ was represented by the neutrals. They didn´t fight. So it could be a special setting for this Civ.
I would deactivate this option (If you activated it).

In my AWI scenario I never had any problems with the lightblue Civ.

          Cheers, guys - !

The modifiyrep event is interesting, I of course have tweaked the LEADERS settings for the lightblue civ.

I am worried that the special rules settings become written once the first save is made,
as is the case with the GFX override options. That is why I am interested in hex changes.

The save file might have the WW2 AI rules permanently attached...

Curt, this is beyond my abilities to provide a fast simple solution. If no one has solved it by the time I get significant free time (sometime next week), I'll take a look, but I can't promise to possess the necessary know-how. Perhaps Agricola, Mercator, or Catfish?

Curt, I can selectively establish the relationship between Light Blue and any of the other civs. One can have assymetric relationships such that LB is at war with civ X while civ X is allied with LB. I think, but am not positive, that civ X has to remain allied to LB if diplomacy is disabled.

              Might that help you?

              EDIT:
I downloaded the save and took a look at it. What relationships would you want between the various civs? I can't tell because diplomacy is disabled.

                Thanks for the response chaps!

I am going to test out a new SCn file with the WW2 AI turned off, and the modreuputation event added, as Cyrion suggested.

I have also put the USA (LB civ) into only a peace treaty with the Germans and Japanese. So their alliance won'y exist.

I'll be back soon to report what happens!

Applying the new events seems to have brought the USA civ out of it's pacifist ways...

Just check out this screenshot...These USN chaps are going for victory!

I think I know why the USA was acting so weird.

I have barb cities, who represent the Neutrals. Surrounded by impassable terrain.
Because the CIV2 AI is fixated on attacking barbs, the USA civ was trying to get
to these cities, and forgetting about everything else. I then removed the barb
city of Mexico, which led to the whole US fleet heading towards 'Berlin'...

I wouldn't want to be in old Adolf's jackboots right now...
A lot of angry warships are heading to 'redecorate' his empire!

After some thought, I am going to remake the map, as I think Dictator needs
a fresh look...I am wondering if Eivind IV would let me use his world map
                    for La Belle Époque?

                    PS
Hope the Kriegsmarine has paid their insurance...!

                        Poor Germans!

(slightly) OT: I had never heard of this Modifyreputation event before I tried it, and in scens where diplomacy is turned off (which, if not the rule, is more than a minor exception), this can be really useful! That is, if it proves to be as efficient as a (really) short term testing showed...

They crashed all right...Within a turn, Nantes and Bordeaux had old glory flapping above them.

I think removing the barb cities from the equation, and using 'modreputation' was the trick!

Now to create a new map and tech tree!

I have also decided to use partisans to fill the last unit slot, as these will be useful to tie up the Axis...
