  • Crisis: What Should I Do?

Techumseh brings up a very valid point: I've been flittering from project to project, showing no real commitment. I apologize, but I'm in a crisis right now, so I'll ask the community what I should do to see where the popular consesnus is. Please select the project you'd like me to pursue. After this poll, I'll pursue ONE project with vim and vigour, I swear. If you chose 'Other,' please specify. All of these options are things I've started or have planned to do. Thanks for your help.

Other. I think I can sympathize, my historical tastes can be pretty f*cking schizophrenic sometimes, but in this I don't think any 'popular consensus' will be useful to you. I personally feel that there is no point in trying to create a scenario twords which you feel no inspiration, like any creative project. If it isn't flowing out you can't really force it. Nor should you try, in my opinion you're just wasting your own time. Choose a scenario you really care about, not some random poll choice. Thats just how I feel.

      1) I would pick one scenario subject.

      2) Shelf all other scenario ideas and plans.

      3) Work on the project until victory is achieved!

I never tackle more than one project at a time.
There is no point in diluting your creative powers.

      ...

I would finish the alien war scenario.
The others can wait until you feel like it.

I agree with both my above posters. Choose a scenario you care about, and then finish it through. But the most natural choices would be the close to completment, Empire OTRS and Korea, no?

Also, I too have several paralell scenarios going, but I never announce them before very late in the development. I have a huge folder of abandoned project, that no one but me know about.

            I vote for a WW1 scenario
As im italian, i would suggest you to depict italian front..
why ? cause maybe is good for CIV AI engine, as the war was fought mostly in valley/mountains (DOLOMITI) up to 3000 meter..
(i saw trench carved in rock last summer.. still there at 2000mt and more.. an amazing-useless work of men.. )
so.. u know.. valley.. pass.. where the AI can "channel" his strenght easily..
Then as "plus" you could have :
            - a not very known war-front /that include also some big sea battles, 1st submarine, and italian sea-commandos )
            - Rommel 1st war.. as lieutenant of german army in the austrian offensive that was about to ( it did.. ) crash the italian front at caporetto 1917.
            - a incredible resistance of italians on Piave river, after we did loose maybe 300.000 mens in few days .. til final victorious offensive.
            - some "usa/french/english" regiment there too..
            - E.Hemingway, the writer was there.. as journalist f im not wrong..

            I dunno..just a suggestion..

About so "many ideas".. i can only agree with what the collegues said.. better work on 1 scenario.. while collecting ideas for others , if they come, on some paper...
            but most of all !
have fun ! and make us have too !

I have several unfinished projects as well. But it does not constitute a "crisis", as far as I'm concerned. Nor do I particularly care if you move from project to project.

What I do object to is repeatedly asking for help from the community for your various projects, then abandoning them one after another. People around here are very cooperative and helpful, which is one of the main reasons I love it here. But don't take advantage of them.

You need to finish and release some of the scenarios that people have already contributed to.

Not wishing to spark off a Canadian duel, I would agree that it is important to keep one project in sight at a time.

If help is needed with maps and unit balance and the technical side of CIV2, all we need to do is ask...

Indeed I will soon be asking for help on Japanese conquests in the mid-1941 period...!

Thanks, guys! You all have some very valid points. I should focus on something and finish the damned thing, I agree. The others can ultimately wait till one is finished. I'll take a day or two to consider my working project, then announce it by posting in the appropriate thread.

I am guilty of starting multiple projects but I don't necessarily see that as a weakness. Often ideas from one project would complement the other and I find it good to swap back and forth as enthusiasm ebbs and flows. If I only had one project and I got to a low point I would probably leave it and never start again!

Sometimes you have to try things to see if they fly and if it does not take off then cut your losses. However your Korean scenario and EotRS both look fairly close to completion so I would choose one, read an inspiring book or watch a good film, get enthused and then give it a final push to finish it! You will feel much better when your work is complete!

At the end of the day this is ment to be fun!

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Finish the Korean War and WW2 Japan scenarios. Lots of people have contributed ideas, playtesting and gfx for these.

While we're on the subject, you asked me to make a set of US naval aircraft for the Japan WW2 thing which you don't appear to have used

I'm quite sure I used them. Maybe I just haven't updated my units.bmp to your last iteration. I'll fix that immediately. Ultimately, getting EotRS and KW finished should be a priority, I think, given how close they are to completion. Then something new will be in order.
