  • For my next project...

I wanted to get some input from you for my next scenario. Hopefully, it won't take four years to complete! In fact, I'll likely make a deliberate attempt to limit some aspects of it so that it is simpler to develop and has a relatively easy learning curve. (Un?)fortunately, I'm hooked on ToT and would like to use multiple maps and other ToT features in any new scenario.

If these choices make you violently ill, pick the banana option and post your idea.

      Damn it's not multiple choice

My vote goes to the Diadochi, although all have lots of appeal. Alesia and Gordon would be very close second preferences. Oh, and no-one has made a Boxer rebellion scenario. Any chance you'll make all four?

BTW, kudos for even contemplating another scenario so soon after all the effort you put into EAv2

        IMHO, these have potential:

        The campaigns of Alexander's successors
        Caesar vs Vercingetorix at Alesia
        Saving Gordon at Khartoum
        Boxer Rebellion
        Operation Coronet, 1946

This would be great, if only the AI could use naval airpower:

New Guinea 1942-3, Guadalcanal 1942, New Georgia 1943, or some combination

These are interesting topics, but would be boring scenarios:

        Race to Baku, 1918
USA and/or Europeans vs the Barbary pirates
Finding the source of the Nile

        Don't waste your time:

        Dardanelles and Gallipoli (slog fest)
Falklands (i.e. human-civ is UK) (been done)
The liberation of Brunei (who cares?)

Burma has been on my list for awhile also. I was thinking of a more limited scenario, based on the Imphal-Kohima offensive, and the Chindit operations.

The whole Burma campaign done Red Front-style would be good; losing cities and being powerless to stop the advancing Japanese at the outset, followed by re-conquest when better units become available. IMO nothing beats the sense of satisfaction given by this formula in Red Front.

The chindit ops would be interesting to simulate too.

On the naval scenarios, I'd toy with playing major parts of the naval and air campaigns on separate maps using land units.

There's a good chance that I'd work on two initially, then pick the one that has the better potential. However, I'll work on all four, Fairline, once I get complete units, people, and map files from you. Just remember your EA experience where I badgered you for some units, then dropped them.

Thanks for the comments, Tech. It would be difficult to avoid the pitfalls that you mentioned for several of my scenario ideas.

Well, I was split between the US/European-Barbary Wars (America's first overseas expedition!) and the Clancy scenario, ultimately voting for the latter because there don't seem to be many "modern-day" scenarios recently.

Though Operation Coronet (found out what that was via Wikipedia just now ) does seem like an interesting idea.

Operation Coronet would be interesting, but why limit it to the invasion of Honshu? Would it be possible to expand the scope to include the entire Operation Downfall, which includes Operation Olympic (the invasion of Kyushu) as well as Coronet?

Or to take it a step further and include Operation August Storm? That would be very cool.

I'm the SOB who voted 'Watching a banana ripen' because the list of options does not include something you mentioned a couple of years ago that you might consider doing . . . . . . the TOT Red Front Redux.

Would you consider doing it, using Elys' upgraded TOT with its 32,000 units limit?

After reading AGRICOLAs post I agree. Red Front Redux for ToT should be made.
Otherwise go with Operation Coronet (preferably the whole Operation Downfall).

My top three in order of preference would be:

                            1. Burma
                            2. Operations Olympic and Cornet
                            3. Boxer Rebellion

Burma would be cool too if done on a big enough scale. I love the idea of holding the Japs at Imphal and Kohima and the Chindit operation as well as the more mobile operations such as Meiktila. It would have a bit or everything, an epic retreat and defences, then a glorious liberation as well as air mobile guerilla warfare!

The invasion of Japan played as the US would be an amazing challenge and should work well. It is a real What if? I think it would work well as a scenario if the Japanese were well backed up with events!

Boxer Rebellion would be colourful but thinking about it the above two would seem the best options.
