I always play as Romans, and Rome is my Super Science City with around 300 beakers (Colossus + Newton + Copernicus + Library + University).
I have TONS of caravans surrounding it but when they establish trade routes (demand/ not demand), the total beakers accumulated is very small, not the massive long science beaker bar in the Rome city window.
I am in Democracy and I take 2 turns to research something, but I want to make it 1/turn.
To test out the reverse, I make caravans in Rome and establish trade routes in other cities. The beakers still increase pettily.
What am I missing out on? What can I do so I can get an advance per turn just like others describe?
Thank you in advance and I apologize for my ignorance.
