hello all you fine civ 2 players

I'm also a fan of this great game and recently I came across some really great images on these forums. and well I browsed through most of it (except the really long posts) and I have a problem.

I downloaded a certain bmp file from the forum and when I want to c/p it into my cities.gif the structure of the image remains okay but the colours go all mixed up. looks psychodelic.

    I'm using psp4.12.
I can c/p from other files and gifs and stuff and colours stay okay and work in game.

    I have tried the following:
c/p directly from bmp to gif - colours mixed up
c/p from gif to bmp - colours mixed up
save gif as bmp or bmp as gif and then c/p - colours mixed up
transform bmp to gif with special programs and then c/p - colours mixed up
transform both gif and bmp to png and then c/p from one to another - works just fine. but then when I transform it back to gif the game doesn't even start but gives out some hex problems.

is there any better program I could do this in? or perhaps some effect or option I have overlooked?

edit: I'm using civ2 + scenarios. both original discs.

    Thanks

    My suggestion:

Check to see if the file is 8 bit or 24 bit colour resolution.

Civ2 MGE uses 8 bit, while Civ ToT uses 24 bit.

    Hope this helps.

      both have
horisontal and vertical resolution 96 dpi
      and bit depth 8 bit

      if that's what you mean.
where else can i see that?

If you're using 24-bit Test of Time graphics posted here for use with civ2 Fantastic Worlds or Multiplayer Gold Edition, you will need to convert the graphics as follows:

        1. load up the 24-bit bmp into PSP and load the MGE 8-bit pallete I've attached in the zip. In PSP7 this is done by selecting 'colours / load pallette' (shift-o) from the menu bar and browsing the location of the MGE palette

        2. 'File / save as' and change file type to .gif.

        Here's the MGE palette:
