    • Yes, I know it's been over a year since the last post, but fairline's latest modern graphics set inspired me to do some revisions, and now I've ready to release 1.05 for Christmas! (It's not enough to merit a full 1.1, but it still is an improvement!)

(I'd upload the sound file, but SLeague seems to have a problem with that, and you can use the current sound files (I think) fine anyway.)

      • Hey there ghost, I've recently had a go at playing the tactical war game Shattered Union as well as reading DMZ and I've been having an urge for quite awhile to make a civ 2 scenario also based on a what-if second American civil war, but one that's a lot more factionalized as well as more fictionalized.
It's all still just concepts in my mind, but I was thinking of asking if I could use your map as well as city placement as a basis for such a scenario, also I've never actually made any scenarios before so any tips and tricks on making a modern day one would be much appreciated.

Like I said I've got nothing concrete at the moment, but I do have some ideas and if you don't mind I would like to run them down with you all to see what everybody thinks of them.
At the moment I haven't decided if the split should be regional, for example a south, north-east, mid-west, west coast. Or if they should be more ideological and based on both the major and minor political parties, for example the greens would be based in San Francisco, maybe the Libertarians in Las Vegas, the Socialists in the rust belt, the christian right in the bible belt, along with having enclaves through out the states and so on. I'm also thinking of perhaps have a UN peace keeping faction as well.

By the way, there won't be any political statements intended, well, other than some tongue-in-cheek remarks about the political landscape of America.

As mentioned, realism isn't going to be the main focus as I really just want a good multiplayer game with fairly even yet diverse factions for people to play, so I'm thinking about the military equipment would look the same, though each faction would have a few unique units as well.
Speaking of units, I was thinking of putting more focus on low tech and urban warfare with such a balkanized America leading to an almost total collapse of the Mil-Ind-Complexs supply chain.
With that the focus would be more on trying to keep what infrastructure still exists intact rather than on building up your cities, for example there would not be any settlers or engineers in the game so if you destroy the roads to slow down your enemies, that means you won't be able to use those roads either when you're on the offensive, there would be urban squares that give decent production, but with mines they would give considerable more output, but they would also have high defense so should the enemy manage to take these city squares, they'd be hard to dislodge, further more they might screw you over by pillaging the mines, permanently lowering the production value of that city, though they might of course screw themselves over if their intention was to capture said city.
The idea being that a destructive civil war would make it almost impossible to rebuild the country until after the conflict is over.

Anyway, would love to get some feed back on my ideas as well as suggestions for factions, units and other game play mechanics I might use for such a scenario.

        • Sure, feel free to use my map (actually, the map is mainly B-Dawn's, I just made a few adjustments and used it), city placement and anything else you find useful.

If you check in with the Scenario League over on CFC they might still have it.
