  • Roman Civil Wars released!

Techumseh Enterprises Inc. is pleased to announce the first part of a two scenario release this fall.

Roman Civil Wars is a complete overhall of the original scenario from 2002.

It has new Fairline graphics and covers the entire series of civil wars from Caesar's conquest of Gaul up to the triumph of Augustus (Octavian). It's redesigned for single player, although it's still suitable for multi-player.

Movement and combat have been redone, allowing rapid campaigns of conquest. This is offset by a much more aggressive set of barbarian events, including British, German, Dacian, Scythian, Berber, and Numidian raiders, as well as Pirates.

Original features such as the creation of slave (freight) units, and winter storms affecting navigation have been retained.

I'm pleased with the changes which make it fast moving yet challenging game. I hope you enjoy it. It can now be downloaded from my site, here: http://www.tecumseh.150m.com/

ps. the second scenario should be uploaded in about 1 week.

        Splendid

Everyone should try this - the original multiplay version was excellent and I'm sure Tech's SP-oriented upgrade is right on the money.

        Is the other scenario WoC?

That's great news, Brian. I've been looking for a download of either the latest WoC or RCW since we got back from 2 week, 8000+ km trip to Gaspe and the Maritimes. It sure is a vast country with blessedly few people.

Will download RCW and start it for a third time while eagerly awaiting the latest, reputedly smartass-proof, version of WoC.

@Fairline: Yes, it's Warlords of China. I have to finish the Readme and write the wonders description notes.

@AGRICOLA: There's no guarantee that you won't beat it, but it should be more than challenging for the rest of us.

I've arrived at formula of sorts with both these scenarios: lots of opportunity for offensive play, lots of surprises, lots of objectives dispersed over the map, and not enough time.

This scenario looks cool, but it suffers from the unit stats problem. I did a quick check playing as Caeser and found that the AI controled civs could not build their calvary units. This problem could exist for other units at the beginning of the game or for future units, but I did not check. If you get a chance to rework the rules file so the AI can build all their units, this should be pretty fun...

Oops, my bad. I zipped an earlier version of the rules file. Please change the 'role' for the Roman Cav. and the Gallic Cav. from 3 to 0, as below:

                    Roman Cav., nil, 0, 5.,0, 7a,3d, 2h,1f, 5,0, 0, Chi, 000000000000000
                    unused, nil, 0, 2.,0, 4a,2d, 1h,1f, 4,0, 0, no, 000000000000000
                    Gallic Cav., nil, 0, 5.,0, 8a,3d, 2h,1f, 5,0, 0, Chi, 000000000000000

I hope that's all the screw ups I'm guilty of.

I noticed a couple of people mention playing this on other threads. I'd appreciate hearing your comments.
