And mine has not, seeing the disgraceful omission of the banana option.

I have made my vote too...

Naturally, the number of CIV2 people has dwindled, but while we still post, there is a community...

When we cease to post, there is not.

          CIV2 lives on regardless.

Back in 2001 or 2000 I've had an e-mail conversation with Allard Hofelt. I've told him that civ2 community is bound to decline, not only because of other releases. It's an evolution. First scns were simple, bah, primitive. Back in 2001 already if there was a new scn, it was most likely to be highly sophisticated one. It is even more true today. The number of people making scns was bound to decline, simply because it demanded more and more time and commitement.
Today, I see another thing: note that most people that have voted, even though it's only a few, either are scn creators, or want to be.
Civ2 community shrinks in number, but while definitely many talented creators have left, I think some still remain; the most commited, so, the most valuable have remained. What civ2 lacks is public to admire its creations. They've moved to another games. Is there any chance of winning them back?

Personally, I think there will be a trend back towards CIV2 in the future, as it enters 'cult game' market.

As we know, the 'decline' is really due to new games that attract the gamers...You either like flashy new games or you don't...Personally, I don't...I only like games that capture the player addictiveness of the early 1990s crop of software, and these are thin on the ground in this modern age of massive GFX, and no rewarding gameplay.

There won't be another CIV2, or TIE Fighter or Gunship 2000, games these days are a poor copy of the classics.

We are all fans of CIV2, and that is mostly due to our love for old style games, and because of our shared love for history...One thing I have always thought about it trying to seek new players from hex-war gaming forums or WW2 history forums. Perhaps some evangalism for CIV2 is in order?

In any case, I am never going to give up on CIV2.

As I have put it, Civ2 is part of my life these days, even though I've been playing other games more last years. I will never consciously resign of it. Yet, I want to finish Heraclius and its muslim-playable version and start something new. I really need that to take a breath and return to creativity.

I have to agree with Curt. I'm more into older games. I also play few games, but often. I still play and modify Civ2, but I've found another love too, DotA (Defenders of the Ancients, a mod for Warcraft III) which I mostly play nowadays. But I can't see myself abandoning Civ2.

I'm still here... still lurking... still dabbling in the arcane art of scenario-making. I might get one or two finished if my USB drives would stop crashing...

Better yet, if I started backing them up...

I've voted, and I'm in for the long haul. Though I play a number of other games, they're just mistresses, Civ2 is the wife to which I keep returning (and a very forgiving one at that).
