  • No "Loc" line...

    Hi all,

I just started to play Civ II (no, I'm not joking)... but I have no coordinates showing in the "Viewing pieces" frame (and no continent number either). I couldn't find any game option controlling this. Any idea ? Did I miss something ?

    Thanks in advance

The unit you are interested in is selected, right? (white box around unit, unit is blinking...) And you have patched your version of CivII using the most recent patches? Are you using Classic, FantasticWorlds, MultiPlayerGold, or TestOfTime?

Having a unit blinking or the white box around empty terrain, no "Loc" whatsoever...

Do you mean I should or should not ? Is there a way to check whether the version I have is already patched ?

Classic. (People here always say '2.42' : are there different versions, and then how to know it ?)

If you click on "Game Options" under the "Game" tab, the heading gives your game version. The most common versions are 2.42, FW (that is "Fantastic Worlds" which came as a second CD in my version) and MPE (which is the standard multiplayer version).

FW should be avoided - there are severe bugs in the diplomacy. MPE has a more difficult AI. 2.42 has the advantage that you don't need to keep the CD in the drive.

I'm not sure if I understand this right, but if the unit is blinking, there never is a loc line. There's only one after you hit 'v' and activated viewing mode (blinking square). This square was mentioned before so maybe this is clear already.

Finally it works with a patched version (2.42 according patch.txt). Elephant Me

Thanks RJM for how to get the version number... I'll check it this evening (no internet at home, posting from work ). And thanks for the differences between versions as well. Are you aware of any bugs regarding barbs in versions <2.42 ? I've seen none until now (~600BC) although I chose deity & raging hordes. I'm alone on my continent #13 (or so), medium map.

Ecthy, yes, but I never had a Loc...

            Now I can really play

I'm not aware of any specific bugs in versions prior to 2.42, but I presume that there must have been some issues that were being corrected. Barbs can be very random; if you haven't seen any yet, just raise a glass to Loki.

The version that originally shipped in the UK ?2.08? I think had a fun bug - after your 100th city or so (I suspect the magic number was 128, but I can't recall) all cities made NUL units - with no support costs whatsoever - fun...

                Cheers, stu
