Sound/Graphics Issues

After three years, I started playing Civ2 on a computer I just purchased. However, I've run into a number of changes/problems:

1) The sounds are sped up. It sounds like all my advisers sucked helium before talking. I wouldn't mention this, but-

2) the game's playing music from other games. I don't have a problem with this, but I've never heard the Civ2 music- always played with the sound off;

3) Most disturbingly, I can't seem to test out graphics, even though I'm saving them in the right format- 87A noninterlaced.

I've never played Civ2 on an ME system- could that be the cause of any of this?

You just purchased a WinME system? I thought Microsoft just obsoleted ME.

On this new system, did it come with a driver disk for the built-in audio and video chipset? I'm assuming it is one of the P3/4 motherboards with everything built in. If not, you should be able to tell from the bootup screen what the chipset is, then visit their web site and look for a set of drivers. The right drivers for aud/vid can make a world of difference.

I bought the computer from Craigslist. The memory needs to be upgraded and the OS changed, but I wanted to play Civ2 too much.

Any ideas on the graphics issue?

You need the old Indeo drivers - they can be found in the directory

From what i can recall, with music enabled Civ2 will randomly play tracks 2-10 of any audio or mixed cd in a particular drive (this corresponds to the audio tracks on the civ2 cd; track one on the civ2 cd is the data track and is therefore ignored).
