As stated at the bottom of this thread I was able to get my PC to work again.

You can now consider me to be back - though I could not say when I am going to be able to contribute anything more than mere comments for I am still installing some more updates & re-setting up my machine.

I think I will find some more time to re-install (at least) ToT on my machine which is even more pressing these days because of these wonderful new scenarios in the making ...
