  • Need a playtester

Need a playtester for a scenario. Doesn't have to play the whole thing, just 10-15 turns.

I have recently updated it, but changed the stats of some units yet again.

Its a complete and finished work, i just want to check if the new unit stats have altered the game balance.

Normally i do all the playtests myself, but i have playtested this bugger more than 67 times and i have simply become too good to test the scenario's difficulty.

Thing is i can't be arsed to post the files here since it would take 7 posts.

Just post here and i'll e-mail you.

    Thread:http://www.apolyton.net/forums/showt...8&pagenumber=1

Its about the second Punic war from the Carthaginian side.

    Much obliged.

I'll give it a whirl this weekend. Send it to Robroy3@hotmail.com. Don't bother with the sounds if the zip/rar is too big.

This is an update of Hannibal's War, right? Do you want me just to focus on changes or start with blank sheet?

            Pal,

Sorry, power outages prevented me from playing much last weekend. I only played about five turns of what I'd intended to be a marathon session...got power back almost two days later, and it's been intermittent since then. I should get another chance this weekend, weather permitting.

From what I did play, though, the newly strengthened Heavy Infantry does help Hannibal a bit...too soon to give an opinion as to whether it's too much. I took Massillia with fewer losses than I remember in previous games.

I haven't been tempted to build any of the new seige units, though...I've been finding that ships are useful, so I've been using naval strategies and tend to build those, almost exclusively, early on. The seige units didn't look compelling enough to change my strategy. But I'll charge through a game or two using a more historical approach and see if the seige units become more attractive.

Are you a lost sheep returning to the fold, like myself? Or a true die-hard who's never lost the faith?

Any updates to Fading Lights in the works?

                    Yes.
Fading Lights is long long finished. I've been toying with idea of making an update, but have been to busy. For last years I've been working over Heraclius scenario, but most of the time it's been kind of like Genesis these days - not officially dead, but haven't moved for a while and stinks already. Mostly I've had a problem with too many units. Yesterday, I deleted all the unitkilled-createunit (the same one) events, so it should do the trick, but I don't know if it won't make Muslim progress too slow or non-existant. i have to play it again. Except for that, the scn is almost finished. I started making Muslim - playable version - like scenario, Muhammad, but it is far from being finished. The first step - uniting Arabia - is a funny little game of its own (very simple idea, though), but when it comes to later part, not much is done. The problem is that Arabs (camel) unit is too good. It is OK when it comes to Arabia, but using one unit to conquer half of the map is boring. So perhaps I will change the stats of it after conquest of Arabia is done.
Still, haven't released anything since Mamluks scenario is 2002. And I started making Heraclius in 2002 winter, so it's almost 4 years without a scn... oh.
I've been playing Paradox games too much as well. And drawing frogs...

Played about six-seven more turns of the game I'd started, using a naval oriented strategy. Hannibal is doing awfully well in Italy, without any substantial reinforcments, beyond what I could comfortably march from Gaul and Iberia and two Elephants from Supply Trains. The long-term naval advantages I hope to see haven't accrued to his army yet.

I'm thinking perhaps you've helped Hannibal out a bit too much, though I might sing a different tune when the Scipio offensives begin. But it's only turn 13 or so and I've taken all of Etruria, and most of the Eastern (Adriatic) coast. I've broken into the South and taken Benevetum, Capua, and one of those southern towns with a lovely "Seaport" (not Neapolis or Tarentum, but near Tarentum).

This is all without any of the new Siege Engines. I chose some Elephants, since I wanted defensive units. One cheap trick I've been using is to bypass not only Rome (Hannibal did that after all), but also Roman Triari and Hastatis units, as well. I leave an Elephant or Libyan Phalanx on a hill near them and dust them off after the AI attacks them; that way they don't seem to get those annoyingly situated replacements. I've also declined to garrison most of my captured Roman towns. Some event tweaks might discourage this approach, but your file looks pretty full. I think ToT could randomize locations of event-generated units, which could solve one problem, but porting everything there would be a pretty tall order. Still, seems I should have more motivation to keep conquered cities garrisoned to stretch my limited resources.

Sorry I didn't get to do as much as I'd hoped. Will keep going. Still want to do a few quickies just charging ahead with Hannibal in Italy without mucking about with those time-consuming boats. Naval war is going well, but none of your changes effected that, and your Scipio offensives might make that a moot point even if I do get Sardinian/Corsica/Siciliy back. I can now trade profitably from Carthage to Massilia, with little chance of interception. And I almost have a ship chain there anyway. 'Course some of that is luck, the lucrative Seaport might've vanished in the conquest as it often does.

Yeah, EUII was good, but I've soured on the company, in general.

If you've ever played Kull's Seeds of Greatness scenario, we're trying to start up a second Ancient Empires PBEM game with uber-barbarians. Drop by and check out our test game in the PBEM thread. I'm sure there are frogs in there, somewhere.
