  • The Operational Art of War III released

This isn't Civ-related, but I believe that this board can be used to discuss scenarios in any games. As TOAW has excellent scenario editing properties, I think that this might be of interest.

The last, and final, version of Talonsoft's classic wargame The Operational Art of War (TOAW) has been released and is available to purchase from Matrix Games website at: http://www.matrixgames.com/games/game.asp?gid=317

For those of you who aren't familiar with this game, TOAW is widely considered to be one of the best, if not the best, large-scale war game ever produced. It's famous for its realism and flexibility and is also pretty user-friendly (which isn't always common in war games). I've been playing it for years and still enjoy it.

Incidently, I designed three of the scenarios that shipped with TOAW III (Tarakan 1945, Walvis Bay 1991 and Zimbabwe 2003). I also designed the map for the scenario Korea 2005 and helped with play testing some of the other scenarios.

That's good news. When I upgraded to Win XP, I was disappointed that my OAW wouldn't run. I assume the new version is compatable?

BTW, congrats on being a published author. I look forward to trying your scenarios.

      Good news

I always enjoyed the Operation Crusader and Korea scenarios in TOAW.

Hey Case, presumably you can get us all free copies?

I'll take Palaiologos' copy! Fairline has assured me that he can pay for all from his WC winnings!

Any chance they'll drop the price from $50 US?

Yeah, it seems to work fine with my copy of Win XP

I'm afraid that I can't help with free copies. Anyway, it's probably worth $US 50 if you like wargames and don't have a copy of the Century of War edition of TOAW.

What happened to the option to change from 2D counter units to isometric representations of tanks and infantry BTW? I recall the original TOAW allowed you to switch to units lifted from SSI's Eastern Front / Western Front games...

Sadly I'm neither Argentinian or Brazilian, so I can't help with World Cup Winnings
