  • Spanish Civil War v4.0 -> Preview & Development

Oh yeah, a new release of my classic scenario in in the works!

The new scenario, designed for MGE, will feature:

    - Scenario divided in 3 phases (1936-1937, 1937-1938 and 1938-1939), loadable via batch file. This means having more events room, and auto-upgrade of obsolete units (no more He-51 flying in 1939!)

    - Completely new tech tree, many new units never seen before. Useless units are now gone. Some new units will be buildable when new techs are discovered.

    - Complete revision of the map, specially city placement terrain. Certain cities will be easier to take (low defense terrain), but others will be hard nuts to crack!

    - New wonders, some will buildable, some others will have no effect other than giving 'feel'

    - A new way of handling foreign intervention. Supplies will arrive by land through the French and Portuguese borders, and by sea through the Mediterranean and Atlantic ports.

    - With the increased events room, more historical operations and battles will take place in the Single Player games

    - And of course, a complete graphical update of terrain and units file, to 2006 quality standards. Special thanks to fairline

Work will be slow due to little time, but I'll be posting news here as they come!

Another of the changes I've thought about is to unify the 2 infantries, 2 motorised infantries, 2 commanders and 2 armored cars in 1 single unit each, because they have the same stats, and I need free unit slots

I've thought about including and 'aviation ace' unit for each side. They'll be a fighter unit with increased attack and defense values than the regular unit. You'll have to take care of those though! Joaquín García-Morato (40 confirmed victories) for the Nationalist side, and José María Bravo (23 confirmed victories) for the Republican side. What do you think about the idea?

Sounds great Pablo - might I also suggest you correct the shield box to 10 shields per row in this version as opposed to the 12 that were in previous versions?

what do you think about all infantry treating terrain as road?

Another idea: All units except tanks will ignore city walls. It won't be a good idea to attack cities with tanks, and they should used only in open terrain.

Both suggestions sounds good actually. The importance of road only applies to the tanks.

exactly. I want to simulate the need of roads for all motorised units (including tanks, which were transported by trucks to the frontlines, not by their own means)

Definitely use this one Pablo - too many scenarios can be won with tanks only

                  Thanks for the input

                  Those are the 'ace' units:

I-16 type 10 (CM-193) flown by José María Bravo

                  CR-32 (3-51) flown by Joaquín García-Morato

The shields feature their respective air units (3a Escuadrilla 'Seis Doble' for Bravo, and the 'Escuadrilla Azul' for Morato)

If your interested Pablo, since you departed the forum before your triumphant return I came up with a new style of unit shield dubbed "Button Shields". They're round and have a gold and black outline to them while still fitting inside the standard shield parameters.

There are two sizes that could be used for a scenario, below is an example of the classic Spanish Nationalist sides standard button in small and large size. If your interested I could cook up a whole series for this project, I already have several (WW2 Italian, Soviet, British, French) handy.

Thank you Chris, I will take a look to see how they look in game I already drawn lots of new shields, but they might look better in that round style of yours

At least I see a great potential in the round shields style for this emblem:

My effort was crappy...do you think you can improve it?

                          Great news, Pablostuka!

Although I have hoped the next version of SCW would be created for ToT

Once it's done, it can be converted

But I will finish it for MGE first, it's the civ version I'm familiar with

BTW: Does ToT support multiplayer & PBEM gaming?

I suspect that once you do it in ToT, you won't need to switch between 3 events files. Also, the events themselves can be much more flexible. Once you get the hang of it, it's actually easier in some ways. If you want 10 units to appear, you just need one event to do it.
