I've had problems with Alpha Centauri, other civ take-offs; but civ II has always come through for me. I've been burning it to several back-ups though, of course...

I have 2 original copies of civ2, both are non-functional due to old age (first release editions),
CD's do NOT last forever, about 10 years is the expected lifespan so BACK THEM UP!!!

they can get brittle (and crack merely from putting them in their cases), the top coating can rub or flake away, they can get scratched, and the older they are the easier to scratch, they can deform if not stored flat, they can melt if exposed to direct sunlight (especially here in Oz)

i now run from a backup of a backup of a backup...
(backup #1 and backup#2 are likewise dead)

Do not try and patch the bug. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth.
      What truth?
There is no bug. There is no bug?
Then you'll see, that it is not the bug that is patched, it is only yourself.
