  • Nemo's "The Blitz"

I vaguely remember that many, many moons ago, Capt. Nemo quit the scene after being unable to get his scenario "The Blitz" working correctly, but he released the status the project was at nevertheless. Does somebody still have this rudimentary scenario, and if so, can they send it over to me? I'd like to take a look at it.

    Cheers

      Thanks

(I should do some more extensive background checking in the future)

It had the hallmarks of a classic.

But I think the CIV2 engine thwarted him...

I have pondered for many years on how to make a scenario like 'Blitz' work...

The answer might lie with ToT...

My conclusion is that having the map be made of
ocean, surrounded by uncrossable terrain, and having
cities on land squares... given the AI addiction to ships
and subs, the planes could be a mix of naval and air units...

I reckon this (or a similar) scenario could be made to work with the right ideas!

Yes, that is something I thought of too. It would be cool to see this someday (I'd love to replay the victory of the RAF), but I leave that to the WW2 experts. My interests here lie in a (slightly) different field.

Nemo's problem was the Luftwaffe creating crazy stacks of planes outside British cities which were easily despatched by single RAF units. Someone (FMK?) suggested using invisible forts to protect them, but that wouldn't work with air units of course.

I'm not sure I get how your idea would work Curt. The Luftwaffe have to cross both the Channel and land, so reversing land/sea terrain and making planes ships is a no go unfortunately.

Are you sure about that?? I didn't try it, but if a fortress can portect a stack of ships, why not a stack of air units??

I would have thought it was working the same for all units??

And I just tried it: it works as I thought: an invisible fortress protects a stack of air units as it would do for land units!

So, if it was the main problem for Nemo, it might be an easy solution to use civstack and add invisible fortresses around the Brits cities, what do you think??

Yes, that was quite obvious. Don't understand why he didn't think of that. But then again, you would have to retweak the stats as fortresses give +50% defense, or does that only apply to land units?

Works (adds 100%) only for ground defenders against ground and naval attacks.

[Edit]It is also possible that he thought of it, tested it, and concluded that the AI couldn't handle it.[/Edit]

Could this scenario be made to work as a human vs human multi-player scenario? From what I recall, the AI problems were pretty severe and I doubt that they can be solved.

Yep - Civstack works with aerial units, as I found with my own WW2 efforts.

It would be a case of surrounding important targets with forts...
