Oh, and FYI, I didn't need a dozen Cruiser IIs to take the Guardian. Just a pair of Spies to sabotage it, a pair of Cruiser IIs, and then an Antaran Raider I'd managed to bribe.

      B.
Do not try and patch the bug. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth.
      What truth?
There is no bug. There is no bug?
Then you'll see, that it is not the bug that is patched, it is only yourself.

Again, stacking another unit with the Guardian would make it immune to sabotage. I think

Et cetera. But that would require you to redo the whole game, and besides, the AI is a complete moron on island maps.
I did that with Star Trek and Star Wars. It was more of a vanity project than anything else. It looked great, and played really well from a human perspective, but the AI was driven totally insane.

It might work if you could give the AI several starting "islands," esp. with a limited paradropping ability (would the AI have the sense to paradrop settlers onto good city spots instead of wasting time with transports? Probably not...). If it had several system clusters to expand in, it might stay competitive longer. Or you could make Settlers slow helicopters, etc. There's probably a way to work around the AI's neuroses.

BTW, you might as well make the Barbs a democracy and be done with it. Bribing Antarans really shouldn't be possible, should it?

No probs to report so far, cheers,

but in classic civ II wonderfullness not to be matched by any game other...

Barbs captured an outpost near my capital, and so I barely survived by a SDF or two serious attacks on my capital, only to get xeno relations just in the nick of time... and do I bribe the outpost back? nope, i let it produce antaran cruisers at 186 gold per for me. sure they do some damage b/f I bribe em...

Cheers on some mandatory upgrades to a truly classic and replayable scenario. Especially dig the irr/mine options for planets, which were always missing.
