I started off this game by trying to find new strategies...problem was there are no strategies to be found.
I hope that's not the case... and that you (or other people) will find some.
    Keep on Civin'

I havn't played the game so I can not speak about it per se. But I did predict that if the game didn't allow unlimited fast expansion, and wasn't geared towards early military rushes that Eyes would say it sucked.

I also find 2 other things amusing at first take

      a) Eyes created the game and did all the settings without Ozzy knowing/understanding them. Many of the settings were ones Ozzy wouldn't have wanted. So obviously, when he lost twice it must be the games fault. (BTW small map, accelerated production, limited turns, complaining about the start even thought it is a mirror map - does any of this sound familiar)

      b) if Eyes can't figure out a strategy (whatever that means) there is none

        For Civ 2:

        Cost of Research = TechNumber X (Base + Penalty/Bonus)

TechNumber is the number of techs you have, thus if both the leader and the one at the back are researching Monotheism, the leader pays more.

[Civ4] The simple fact is the game is designed to keep people even. There is nothing there to allow you to get ahead.

I hope this is not true. If the rules are not specifically designed to even the field in all key areas, the better player can always play better. Making tech cheaper for the Civ behind is one such mechanism which I'm guessing that they've kept in Civ IV. Other mechanisms may exist in form of unhappiness and corruption/maintenance if they are designed both making it impossible to grow past some point and easy to get to that point (ie catch up). I won't speculate further about the game I don't have. I do agree with you that "getting ahead-catching up" issue is very important.

Exactly. A point, btw, that he still has yet to address. Not only did he get beat (twice), but he got beat on HIS settings. That must be driving him insane.

What is real funny about this is Eyes was saying earlier how the game was growing on him and how he was beginning to appreciate it and such. Then I beat him and now he is preaching doom and gloom and saying this game is garbage and blah blah blah.

I encourage everyone to take what he is saying with a pound of salt. Whether he likes the game or not depends on whether he is winning or not. He was liking it before when he was beating up new players, then he faced me and I beat him and he changed his tune immediately. Go figure.

          Can't say I'm surprized.

Actually it wasn't vs you that I started to have my opinion go down again. To be honest I'm not really surprised you like this game so much Ozzy. Lesser people like yourself must just giggle at the running streams and the talking Leonard Nemoi as you become immmersed in the genius that is civ4. I know it takes oh so much skill to build a stack of jaguars. You'll never win this argument because you can't point to what it is that you did that was special. You can't point to anything that was skill or even strategy. Your idea of strategy in this game is scouting your opponent and looking inside his cities (anyone can see inside cities now just by having a unit nearby) and then building an army to counter...you think I didn't do this in AOC? It was a hell of alot harder too because it was a true RTS and you had seconds to change if you built the wrong counters. Plus they had WAY more counters than this game has. All I hear about is the depth and I just don't see it. I spent tons of time analyzing saves in civ2 and watching records in AOC...I haven't had to do that in this game because there is no wonder in this game. Everyone ends up with the same amount of cities, the same amount of culture (how can't you? It's just time and clicking on several buildings), the same amount of improvements, the same size cities. It would be one thing if I was the only one saying this, but I'm not. They geared this game to lesser people like you Ozzy, but then again people like you can probably amuse themselves with anything that glitters now can't they?

Just like some of the debates I have had with Eyes here. He "answers" the debate by not answering it but by name calling and putting down the game or in my case the settings

I'm sure many of us on the Civ4 forum would appreciate it. I was following the saga on C4P, but their forums are much harder on the eyes.

Except he refuses my 1x1x deity challenge as he whines about his Civ IV losses to Ozzy.

I also posted it here: http://apolyton.net/forums/forumdisp...267&daysprune=

But I'm thinking no one really uses that forum. I'd repost it again on the main Civ4-MP forum, but that'd be a tad excessive.

Check out Vel's Strategy thread in CIV IV-Strat forum.

There are plenty of strategies being discussed

Vel builds a settler the very first turn he builds a city...he gets all the economy techs before getting any religion or military techs...so basically by the time he has 2 cities I already have 4 warriors in his capital. OR if I decide to sit back and build (always suicide early on) then I can do pop 2 warrior build then build a worker then build a settler with only 3 turns longer than it took him to build that settler out of a pop 1 city. So for 3 extra turns I can have a warrior, a worker, and a pop 2 city with a second city. What he wrote on there is what I did the very first day I got the game and I realized how bad it is. Don't bother reading his stuff.
