  • Can anyone help?

I downloaded one of those things that has new units and stuff and don't know how to use them in the game? Do I edit something in the rules.txt? if so, what please?

drop all the files into your main civ folder. say the zip has a rules.txt and a graphics file. just override what you have already and then they should show up in game
if you want to stop terrorism; stop participating in it

''Oh,Commissar,if we could put the potatoes in one pile, they would reach the foot of God''.But,replied the commissar,''This is the Soviet Union. There is no God''.''Thats all right'' said the worker,''There are no potatoes''

Make sure you save a copy of all your original files before overwriting them!!!!!!!!!!!

        Cheers & welcome, Stu

As Cataphract says, it should be sufficient to replace the existing graphics file with the new one (after backing up as Stu pointed out). This should mean that the new unit graphics appear in all your games. If there is a problem with the file, you might get blobs instead of units in which case you will need to return to your original version. Incidentally, simply renaming the original file before saving the new one will work, but it's probably safer to back it up into another directory.

An extremely easy way to ensure that the original files in the Civ directory are not corrupted is to copy all the graphics and/or text files you will be changing and place them in another directory. Then, modify the copied files in the new directory. If you want to use the new files in a game, simply save your game in the new directory and load your game from there.

Civ 2 initializes its files from the directory of the save and then from the main civ directory. So, if you only want to change the units and nothing else you would change only the copied units file in the new directory. All the other graphics will be loaded up because they will come staright from the orginal directory.
