Here's why I think Amsterdam is the best choice:

                      1. It's equally accessable to both our British and Continental members.

                      2. It has a major international airport, with lots of direct flights.

                      3. It's not too big, walkable, with little traffic.

                      4. It's historic, with lots of culture, museums, etc.

                      5. It has lots of good pubs, coffee shops, etc.

                      6. It has plenty of reasonably priced (for Europe)accomodations.

                      7. It has a very liberal, minimum hassle atmosphere.

....and, despite your opinion, it is a very scenic city with concentric rings of canals around the city centre. Here's another pic.

                      • the problem with amsterdam is the drug culture.
Anyway i can go to London, but not Amsterdam, but i am not the center of the universe

                        ok i am, but still

and London is 3 hours away from here, by plane, in other words it is a quite long and boring journey, for european standards... But the positive with that choise for me would be that i could spend my time pleasantly there, and have a lot of things to do, even if i didnt take part in a meeting

some more places in Thessalonike (although i dont really see it gaining much support as a meeting place) :

1.The arch of Galerius (roman tetrarch)

2.ancient greek (hellenistic age) market, and other ruins.

3.the expectable, impossibly perfect image from the city (as everywhere else though this city has its pathetic places too)

                        • I din't like Amsterdam, but one thing was funny.
You see, there was somekind of gay festival. My parents and I were making our way through one-sex crowd, often embracing, wearing pink, leather or both. And my mother still didn't realise it was a gay thing.

I didn't like it for example for the terrible mess and crowd that was, at least when I was there, at the square in front of railway station. It's not a very nice square anyway, and it was filthy. Just like many other places in town, smelling of pee and full of litter. Not to mention the bordel area... The city, except for the channels, was not all that interesting as well, and incredibly crowded. Of many many Dutch and Belgian cities I've seen that and previous year, I liked Amsterdam the least.
