There has been much debate, but little activity in determining who is the best Civilisation II player in the known universe. It strikes me that there is only one measure: Civilisation score.
In effect what I am proposing is a leader board.
Individual game parameters will be determined by individual players, whether is a dual or multi play format.
I think the only caveat should be that players can only play each other once in any calendar month, and a new game can not be started with the same set player(s) whilst another is in process.
Whilst the game format is open and to be decided by individual players, including difficultly levels, map settings, bribery, etc etc, the basic rules format is based around “Rah Rules’ as found in the Poly site. These rules, from my understanding, largely limit the inherent cheats in Civilisation (for example unlimited range for Bombers etc etc).
I envisage that saved games will be posted to validate scores and the ladder will be by cumulative scores.
If adopted, I would like to emphasise that those that play only one style or level would find it very difficult to get ongoing matches. They may be good players, but the truly great players should be able to win in any format and accept that as a way to get multiple games. I guess a good analogy is a tennis player that only wins because of a powerful serve is merely remembered as having a good serve, the truly great tennis players are those that are the ‘match technicians’ that use style to win the match regardless are remembered as the game greats.
