You'd never know, I had a mate who once custom built a case out of acrylic, placed a second, larger case around it, and packed the in between with bags of ice cubes.
2 case mods for summer weather
one guy i heard about decided to take out 2 biurds with one stone, he wanted a liquid cooling system for his tank, and he needed a new heater for his tropical fish tank, so he rigged up the tubing and a pump so that the water from the fish tank went through his computer, which heated up the water for the fish tank,
the other is building a case out of a minifridge,

OK here's my problem. We're having an unseasonally hot summer here in Blighty (32°C in the E. of England this week) and my PC is refusing to run any version of civ without overheating and shutting down. I guess old programs like civ are processor-hungry causing melt-down with the already toasty P4 chip in my computer.
As the resident Australian you'd think that I'd know how to fix overheating computers but, honestly, I've never heard of it being a problem (unless you've over-clocked your PC). Perhaps computers mass produced in Malaysia and Taiwan are customised for their desination countries? While all my computers until the current one were rubbish, they all survived years of Canberra's freezing winters and baking summers (though the one I had at the time of the 2003 bushfire was never the same - having a major environmental disaster a few hundred metres away from ones home is a little hard on the electronics. And the paint work.).
Anyway, seeing as my computer is happy until the tempreture in the house hits about 40°C (when it becomes only a little unstable - which is more than can be said for me at that kind of tempreture) I think that there may be something wrong with your computer that no amount of cooling can fix. How old is it?
Can anyone suggest a solution other than installing AC in my house? Please help - I need my civ fix
This is kinda obvious, but move the computer to the coolest room in the house and see if things improve. If that disrupts your internet arrangements then invest in some cabling and masking tape [to stick the cables to the gound/wall so you don't trip over them]. Raising the CPU off the ground couldn't hurt either.
Alternetely, you can either buy a built-tough-for-Australian-conditions PC or just wait a couple of weeks for your summer to end.

Umm...you do have back ups of your important stuff, right?
Case. You want Fairline arrested for making a IED?
N.B. From Case's link
In my opinion I do not recommend using this technology for cooling overclocked AMD processors. Saying this has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I work for another processor maker who I probably shouldn't mention but who want me to say you should all buy P4s.
Well, I have an old Cel466. those are not as prone to overheating. Modern P4's and AMD's consume a lot of power so you need to have a a high quality fan installed. They are much more likely to overheat during a hot summerday.
You could try and install a watercooling rig in your PC.
Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.
i have an amd xp2200, but my radeon 9800 overheats more than my cpu does,

That'd be the downstairs toilet. I'd best not
I've stuck my PC on the middle of the desk in my study with a good flow of air and the side of the case off. I think the thing must be malfunctioning - its not overclocked BTW, but has always run as hot as a hot thing on a very hot day.
.....just wait a couple of weeks for your summer to end.
That's a good point. Wimbledon is on so freezing rain can't be far off. Mind you this global warming seems to be taking it's toll; who'd have thought it would be hot in Summer in Britain?
