  • Need a Big map of Mexico

    Ideally, I'd like this map to be;

    1.) Huge, but not a giga map

    2.) Include considerable detail in its terrain.

    3.) Unique orientation--I'll specify.

    I recall someone offering to make maps for me, but now I can't remember who.

    I've looked at several maps of Mexico, but none so far are precisely what I'm after.
    Lost in America.

    Wouldst thou be so kind as to enlighten us good sir as to what this new project might entail? Is it a tale of invading Conquistadors? A tale of Pancho Villa's rail riding army or of Santa Anna's mad ventures?

    I'd love to know more details if they should be so forth comming.

          Well . . . . .

          IF I can get a map, I'll put it together pretty quickly. The conceptualization stage is complete.

          I've got the Mexico map that's on Jorrit's site, but it's not accurate. The montane regions aren't correct. There are some other maps out there, including those embedded in various scenarios, but, once again, they just aren't satisfactory. I'm happy to do some modification of terrain, but I'm no mapmaker--I need a very good map to start with.

          That said, I'm a little reluctant to start talking about a potential scenario. If I can't get a good map, it won't get done.

          The time period will run from 1910 until 1920. The conflict has several names, depending upon sources, but the Mexicans themselves call it the Civil War, which it undoubtedly was, but Americans don't call it that because the term would be confusing vis-a-vis our own civil war, and, for some odd reason, very little educational time is spent in American schools on this topic. We complain about illegal immigration a lot, but we aren't given the tools to understand Mexico's very recent history.

          The Mexican Civil War is ideal for recreation in Civ2 because there were several powerful factions that switched sides and fought each other as the conflict pregressed. Madero, Villa, and Orozco fought Diaz's government troops, Madero imprisoned Villa, Orozco fought Madero, Huerta usurped the presidency from Madero, Carranza fought Huerta, then Villa, and Zapata fought just about everybody, except Villa. Given the inevitable behavior of the MGE AI, this conflict should work well and can be represented.

          But FIRST . . . . I need a map.

            Well, if you ever do find the map your looking for or have one made up, I'd love to help out in any way I can with units and cities and such if possible.

            Perhaps you can give Steph a shout about this project, he's made some pretty amazing maps before that are still highly sought after.
