That's a great idea, however (just like the trireme one) it is unviable with AI civs...

        Well, that is certainly interesting.

Although take your time, as I'll have virtually no free time over the next month or so.

Currently i am coming up with a story that leads up to the start of the game, the story will influence the techs,
One of my ideas is that the sun became unstable, and 21 countries sent sleeper ships into the unknown in an attempt to preserve their civilizations, only 7 ships survived the journey, the player would play as one of those 7 colanies and attempt to create a inter-stellar empire or launch a starship into the next closest galaxy,

          What do you think?

Odd as it sounds, I think the starship victory option is a bit out of place for this scenario...when the civilization's already in space, there's no major technological adaptation involved in traveling to another galaxy. All you'd have to worry about would be increasing the efficiency of existing life support and propulsion technologies so the colony ship could get there in decent shape by a reasonable point in time. It's not like with regular civ..."We're colonizing alien planets!" "So what? We've been doing that for centuries now!"

But then I've never really liked the starship option anyway, so who knows. Are you planning on incorporating extraterrestrial life in any way? When you first proposed this I was thinking of something like MoO only without the major racial advantages.

so what could i turn the starship victory into, what kind of device could make it's owner undefeatable and powerful beyond imagination,

Travel to another galaxy sounds like enough of a jump to require a much bigger starship to me. Maybe the navigation requirements alone are enough to justify a space-ship type project, even if basic space travel has been reduced to instantaneous traverse.

Anyway, some thought should go into types of propulsion and such, no doubt. but nothing wrong with intergalactic travel as a plot peak.

                good luck!

Even at supra-light speed fast enough to get you across the galaxy in a couple of months, galaxies are very very far away... If we're talking about reaching the nearest galaxy ( or perhaps the universe's center where, according to ancient artifacts discovered scattered around the galaxy, an abandoned but still working device of inmense power awaits whoever gets there first.

I Was also thinking of some kind of gate system, kind of like "stargate" and the first one to complete a gate hub would use it to sabatoge all other gate hubs that are under construction, the gates would allow instant travel to any point in the universe instantly. Who needs starships when you can instantly send anything anywhere, and the civ who builds it can place huge armies in all other civ's capitols, so pretty much once one civ builds it, it's game over to all other civ's

or i could make it as contact with an alien race, first one to contact that race wins, then leave what happens next to another scen,

If you use ToT, you could make the completion of the 'project' (whatever it is) enable travel to a new, super-productive, world, which will give whoever gets there an edge over the others.

currently i am working on a back story, the back story will influence the techs like i said before, and the spaceship/gateway/alien contact victory will also influence techs, i am thinking that earth built a seires of colanies, then something happened that wiped out earth and most of the colanies, and 7 bands of refugees settle down and start building their own civilizations,
