  • New Sci-Fi Scenario in works

I've been playing around with an idea that has seemed to spawned into a full-blown mod, it is basicly a galactic colonization scenario where you must conquer the galaxy, or be the first to get colonists to the andromeda galaxy and conquer it i decided to give it a shot since there seem to be a complete deadlock on new future scenarios,
right now i have no cities, flags, icons, unit stats or tech tree.
terrain is about 40 percent done,
Here is the early beta of the units,

At last, a new space mod to replace the very entertaining but also very buggy Civspace mod.

Some advice for the Tech Tree: don't just stuff it with things such as "quantum particle theory" or "bioelectronanodynamics" - put in a good number of social techs as well.

My question is - who are the good guys and who are the bad?
You have made peace with the evil Wheredehekowi tribe-we demand you tell us if they are a tribe that is playing this scenario.
We also agree not to crush you, if you teach us the tech of warp drive and mental telepathy and give 10 trinkets

all units are generic, so it all depends,

How are you working terrain? Is this going to be more like Moojr (where the "ships" are actually land units, and space is plains or some such) or Kobayashi's STBAQ (more accurate, but more difficult and less AI-friendly solar-system "islands" in an ocean of space)?

It's a pity my computer can't play civ2 any longer...I'm just hanging around here to encourage now. But you're right, sci-fi and original fantasy aren't as big as they could be.

Civspace's galaxy map had all squares coastal but contiguous by interweaving ocean "deep space" and land tiles. Ships were able to cross the gap between spiral arms.

I'm using ocean as deep space, starships will be naval units,
many starships will have the carrier flag so that they can carry starsfighters, starships range from attack shuttle to battlestar, there will also be a sattelite unit that any civ can build from the start which has no defence or attack that can be used for exploration, the other start units are long range shuttle and attack shuttle, the shuttles have 1 or 2 movement while tjhe sattelite has 6-7 movement,

Shouldn't it be a "probe," not a satellite?

                    Nice idea, with interesting possibilities.

But where, oh where, is the WWI scen that IIRC you were working on? I was very much looking forward to playing it.

Excerpts from the Manual of the Civilization Fanatic :

Money can buy happiness, just raise the luxury rate to 50%.
Money is not the root of all evil, it is the root of great empires.

it's getting there, i just need inspiration, i've been watching too many sci-fi shows lately which is why i started this scen.
I figure i'll pick up a number of books and movies about ww1 from the library when i clear up my card, that should giove my the inspiration to continue my ww1 scen,

It's a pity that range doesn't affect naval units. :-/

Well, you could make early probes triremes and give them the posisbility of being lost in deep space, to keep expansion down, prevent someone from sending a colonizing vessel to the other side of the Galaxy.

Eh, I think it's better to just limit the abilities of settlers directly. Force them to do in-system "short-range shuttle" paradrops at first or something. Thus far, the limitation of space has not been seeing what's there so much as getting people there safely. Remember, our probes have just left the solar system recently after several decades of flight; serious interstellar probes would have to work on a different scale (presumptively you'd have to develop faster-than-light communication somehow unless you wanted to be a couple of years late in getting the news), and probably be less likely to get "lost" than their primitive ancestors. We're nowhere near the technology required to do this kind of expansion, so it's anybody's guess how it would work.

When you're making a speculative scenario, don't worry too much about hard science. Think about what you want the player to be doing at different phases of the game, and make the tech fit accordingly.
