    Hello again. This will be the continuing from the old "An Epic Mafia scenario" thread, as that too vanished in that damn delete thing.

    Anyway, the beta is ready on my computer. But before I release any packages I would need you, John (AGRICOLA), to do a little service for me. An offer you can't refuse, if you may Could you remove global warming from this sav? When you've done so, I'll post the beta version so you guys can help me test it

    ¨For those of you who don't remember what I'm talking about, it's a rise and fall scenario covering the Italian mafia in NYC. Starting in 1933, ending in 1990.

      Here's the altered save that you requested. Glad to be of very minor help.

      Please test it yourself because I didn't get very far with using the save with vanilla CIV2 auxiliary files. Did learn one thing. Don't whack the wrong guy(s), it gets mighty expensive.



      PS From what little I saw, this scen could well be titled "SLAUGHTER ON FIFTH AVENUE". The AI hoods go absolutely nuts.

          Cheers, John! Nomatter how much of an effort it was it is highly apreciated!

          Anyway, for what it's worth, here's the beta. I've done some minor play tests myself, and I'm not very pleased with the way it works. There's simply just too few civs, and the only way to include other ethnic gangsters than Italians, I had to place them in the barbarian slot. So, the non-Italian gansters goes frantic on everyone, and so does the police on them.

          Also, another observation I made was that the AI is absolutely in no way able to think about consequences for their actions. They take no consideration to the fact that there is an event that generates FBI agents every time a NYPD officer is whacked. So, for SP this seems fairly hopeless. I'm pretty fed up right now. I just hope this won't be my "The Blitz"

          But nonetheless, I've spent hundreds of hours on this scenario so far, so I'd apreciate comments of any kind if anything can be improved. Keep in mind that this is only a very early beta version. I'm open to change proposals.

          Some hints before starting to play:

          MOBSPEAK:
          Don't think that it is my English there's something wrong with when reading the pop up windows and the meeting with the AI. I've done my best to translate all the text files to mobspeak, to add some flavour to the scen.

          BE CAREFUL:
          Be extremely careful with attacking police officers of any kind, as they will immediately call on the FBI for assistance. Also, killing civilians is not a very good idea. By killing other ethnic gangsters, you will only encourage them to rise up against you, so bear this in mind before playing. But then again, it's your job to keep unorganized bullies away from your neighborhoods to protect your interests and the people living there.

          TERRAIN INFO:
          Irrigation, Farmland and Mining have been renamed Bars, Restaurants and Hotels. It has most of the same effects as in vanilla civ, but do take a look at the terrain section in civilopedia for a more detailed description. All terrains have their own distinct feature.

          Don't bother building roads, as the effect of roads have been disabled.

          Also, the terrain transformation time has been drastically reduced, in order to encourage the players to go into the construction business, which has a history of mafia relation in NYC.

          Here's what they transform to:

          Non Habitated ---> Low Dense Res.
          Low Dense Res. ---> Residential
          Residential ---> Upper Class Res.
          Upper Class Res ---> Commercial

          Docks ---> Industrial
          Commercial ---> Industrial
          Industrial ---> Estates
          Park ---> Estates
          Estates ---> Commercial

          So, don't hesitate to transform terrain. It will only take you 5 turns. Irrigation etc 4.

          ADDITIONAL INFO:
          Cars are in reality naval units and the roads are ocean with pollution as an overlaying terrain. Global warming has been removed from the scenario, and no roads lead into the Hudson river or any other NY water surrondings.

          To keep up with the AI tech race you should prioritize trade.

            Say Eivind, I hate to do this to you as you already have enough concerns on hand, but I wasn't able to download the pics you wanted use in the title up until now, I was just ready to stick them into the title graphic and they seem to have been removed. Any chance you can post them again in a zip folder?

            Also, what was the official name you wanted this game to be given?

              And "Mafia" is the main title. But as an undertitle something sounding like this "The rise and fall of the La Cosa Nostra". If it's too long, then just "La Cosa Nostra" would be adequate. Thanks again, Chris!

                      Apart from graphics, are there any constructive observations and suggestions from the now 12 downloaders? I spent a lot of time on this and some input would be apreciated.

                        One point.
                        The AI police probably aren't intelligent enough to research all their advanced techs it might be better if they were human controlled.

                          Having to click the OK on the dialogue box after every "UNIT makes drive by shooting" gets annoying.
