In most of the photos I have seen of Soviet Naval Infantry in the field they are wearing a steel helmet which is painted a very dark grey/green. Just an observation

Well, the site where I got a lot of my refences from shows the Naval Infantryman wearing a beret-like cap. He's also my main reference for my USSR/Warsaw Pact infantry unit (this guy, who did have a helmet when in field gear.)

I have just done a quick Google search for "Soviet Naval Infantry" and I found this picture:



Looks like the beret is common, though in combat I would expect the tin hat is standard to protect their communist noggins Guess you could go with either.

Two units I made today for my "Red Storm" scenario: a Soviet policeman and paratrooper.

Obviously one will do better on a battlefield than the other. :P
