  • Arrows in city window

You know the arrows to the left of the "view," "rename," "exit" buttons, etc. in the city window? For some reason mine are just black boxes (almost like the arrow image is missing). What's worse is when I click on them, it crashes the game. This might have been due to a mod I installed a looooooong time ago and can't remember. Or is it a known bug?

I think this happened to me a while back. It seemed to clear up on its own It may have had something to do with FW. What version are you using?

(And as lots of people will point out, a complete re-installation will not do any harm.)

I'm using just the original 2.42. I guess I'll have to organize my graphics and rules mods and re-install. Thanks!

When I was still playing Civ2 (before SMAC), I used to play with the Fantastic Worlds pack (and its predecessor). I don't recall this problem, but it may just be too long ago for my shattered memory.

Off topic: my goodness, at Apolyton even Civ2 (fond memories) is current, but Moo2 has been quiet for days, and Moo3 seems to have died awaiting burial.

The crash when trying to arrow back (I don't think it ever happened when going forward) is a bug that's happened to me lots of times in 2.42, but never in MGE. Eventually, I just stopped using the left arrow. I don't know what the problem is with the arrow images, though.

The only problem I ever had was there was sometimes one city that would crash it, whether I cycled to it forwards or backwards. Otherwise it was fine. Haven't had problems since going GOLD>

I get the black boxes not too infrequently, but they don't crash the program and they're fixed when I reboot.

Way back when I first played the game, I would sometimes name my cities with numerals, and the arrow buttons didn't like that; but otherwise, they've never given me problems, even when they're just black (stripy black) boxes.
