  • Windows ME hates Civ2.

Yes, yes, I know Windows Me sucks, but I'm stuck with it for now, since I'm at college, and it just tells me "WinG load failure error: 2" whenever I try to run Civ2 or the map editor. I've checked all the old compatibility threads but they all cover XP, 98 or 2000. Any advice?

Sorry to hear you are having difficulties with Civ2. I believe "WinG" refers to necessary drivers and they can be found on the game disk. It's been a while but I seem to remember that the game disk has a prompt to install these drivers (Indieo and WinG).

A full reinstall of the game should do the trick. Good luck.

Yes, I use Windows ME and it runs all flavors of Civ II once the required drivers are updated and in place.

Crap, I left my disc at home. Well, we'll see if that works whenever I get around to picking it up. I figured it was just a compatibility problem. Thanks.

I believe the WinG driver can be found on the net. Not sure where though. It may be worth throwing it at Google.

I also use ME, I don't have problems running the normal game. But when I add the MP patch from CivFanatics I get this when trying to show movies:

            ICDecompressEX returned -3
