Capturing an AI capital

For what it's worth, in the first deity game I ever won, I had to capture three different AI capitals to destroy their spaceships, and all three were destroyed. So maybe there's a first-time rule for each civ, but certainly if you have to go after other civs' capitals you should be successful in destroying their ships. Good luck!
