  • "neverending" projects... nothing must be lost

    When I read these our_man's posts, I've thought that a thread about this wasn't a too-bad idea...

Would it be possible for you to post your unfinished scenarios here at the SLeague, just in case any of the designers here feel like they can finish off any of your projects. It would be a shame to allow all that work to go to waste...

NOTHING of creators' works should be lost...
So... post your impression and - of course - your... "lost arks" !!!

This only works if people are willing to post their unfinished projects, which doesn't happen a lot: see Case's idea for "the dead scenarios office".

Hopefully, there'll be more of a will this time. With Darthveda and Allard both having hung up their Civ2 gloves within the past month, I firmly believe that half-finished scenarios of theirs are still better than a lot of 'fully' completed scenarios on the internet!

Absolutely agree, if you can get these masters to relinquish their unfinished projects

I think that everybody will be glad to credit the original ideators, for the debts toward them... At last, the important is that the ideas could see the light... I think "first-workers" too could like to see the end of their old projects (albeit not exactly the one they had thought at the beginning... )

I have a number, but I'm unwilling to admit that they might not be finished some day! Some say I'm delusional, but I say it's just optimism.

            that's right, indeed , I understand well...
Maybe one day, only one that you 'love' a little less than the others...

Ok, so let me release some of my unfinished scenarios. The more interesting I am not yet willing to give away.

Number one: Argonautica. A very old non-finished scenario of mine when I decided I wanted to participate in the Scenario Design Contest. Unfortunately it never got past halfway.

Number two: the Homeric Age (v3). So many ideas to implement, too little yet done, too little motivation to finish it.

Number 3: The Dutch Republic v2 (that's the short name..). Not so much changed from the 1st version, though I thought it might be nice to release it anyway to show off the cool terrain and city icons.

Number 4: not really an unfinished scenario. Actually it is hardly started, but maybe someone will be inspired to finish it. This is the battle of Issus, with the perhaps all-too ambitious plans to include a whole series of single-combat scenarios with one ruleset and unitset.

Ok, that's it for the moment.
Some unfinished scenario I still have and that are worth mentioning are:

                      - The Boer War v2 (MGE)
a remake of the first version, completely new and redesigned from scratch. About 75% finished.

                      - The Natal Field Force (ToT)
a zoom-in of the Natal Front in the Boer War, somewhat similar in design and concept to "the River War". About 90% finished.

                      - August 1914: The Western Front (ToT)
Von Schlieffen's plan and a model to simulate several what-ifs using civ2. Very difficult to achieve the right combination of playability and accurateness. About 75% finished.

                      - Greek-Turkish War (MGE)
A fictional modern day war scenario about a short conflict between Turkey and Greece and Cyprus. Some nice ideas, but modern day scenarios aren't really my thing. About 50% finished.

                      - The River War v2 (ToT)
I posted a link to download this updated ToT version on Apolyton before. Lots of improvements using ToT technology. About 90% finished.

                        Allard:

You really have a lot of ideas for scenarios.

It would truly be a pity to see any of this work lost.

It would be interesting to see a couple of those scenarios in their finished state...

                        Cheers!

Allard, thanks for the posts! The other ones are so near to completion; I hope you get the drive to finish them someday and that they see the light of day!

                              Wow!

Fantastic stuff Allard. Now come on someone, I need that Issus scenario finished. I already have the extra gfx missing from Allard's unit file.
