  • "Red Lion" for ToT Under construction!

My first scenario project and has been for nearly 1½ years now Ive started doing it 3 times. But the 3rd time, im doing it on ToT! But the main idea (timeline)

    - 1918 - The civil war in Finland was won by the communists.

    - 1921 - The Bolsheviks in Russia have won the Civil war

    - 1924 - Lenin dies and a fierce battle for power between Trotsky and Stalin begins.

    - 1925 - Stalin chockes on a chicken bone and dies leaving Trotsky as the leader of the USSR

    - 1925 - The Finnish Socialist Republic and the USSR sign an alliance.

    - 1941 - Hitler launches Operation Barbarossa and declares war on the USSR and Finland. Germany attacks from Norway to Lapland.

    - 1945 - The Red army liberated Berlin and the war is over! The finnish infastructure and army is badly damaged

    - 1952 - Leon Trosky dies in his bed peacfully and Nikita Khrushchev replaces him.

    - 1957 - A crisis over Ahvenanmaa (Åland) between Finland and Sweden nearly leads into a war which Finland could not afford, but was saved by the UN.

    - 1958 - Norway and Sweden sign a defensive alliance

    - 1964 - Leonid Brezhnev replaces Nikita Khrushchev.

    - 1966 - Swedish recon shows Finnish troops and planes in the demilitarised Ahvenanmaa and Sweden declares war dragging Norway into war too!

    The civs:

    Finnish Republic -
    Sweden
    Norway
    Denmark
    Soviet Union *AI*
    Neutrals *AI*

In the beginning Finland is at war with Sweden and Norway and Denmark is not. But Denmark can join the war of course, they're like Italy in WW1, they have a choice

Norway gets NATO and British reinforcements and Sweden gets US support (which isnt very good, because they send tanks that arent very useful in rough forests).

The Finns get help from the soviet union. And most of the Finnish army have Russian stuff. But through events Finland can get soviet naval help from Leningrad and Murmansk.

You can check more from the CDG Red lion thread: http://www.evo-games.net/Home/viewtopic.php?p=5382

These are some Canadian Centurions, They were phased out in the 1970's, in favor of the leopard

Here's some stuff that was around in the 1960's, hope it's useful,
not quite sure which sukhoi's were in service around then, so i included the su-7 through su-22, (a total of 4, they really skipped numbers)

                  @ Nilat

I'm quite happy that you chose to go with TOT. Better gameplay experience overall, and makes me particularly joyful seeing that the Swedes use a horribly difficult and unique 4-colour splinter camouflage pattern for their tanks/uniforms.

In any case, here is my pathetic attempt at colouring a Swedish Centurion MBT. As I have mentioned its camouflage is hard to replicate and as expected I have failed miserably.

PS: Regarding your question at the CDG Unit Graphics forum, I wouldn't knwo, because I make none of my units from scratch. My skills suck, as you probably know by now. You could ask fairline though- the sheer number and variety of units he has made should give a good idea on the time each different type of unit requires.

That camo is amazing!!! Thank you so much! Dont put yourself down like a teenager! I think you, fairline and steph are the best in the business at the moment! Keep it up!

and btw, in ToT the shield isnt needed? So Ill just do a swedish banner there? Thats the bad thing about ToT, no shields anymore

Use sprite masks for banners with Merc's CivSprite utilities. From some file on my disk (certainly couldn't be the utility's Readme).
MASKS As said earlier, each image is exported as 2 images, one "real" image, the other a "mask". So what is this mask? You can see the separate mask bitmap as representing an extra property of the pixels in the other exported bitmap. More specifically, it determines whether that pixel should be painted in the owning civilization shade. Any non-black pixel in the mask will turn the corresponding pixel in the image into the shade of the owning civilization. That is, in Civilization II, once you've imported the image back into the sprite file.
So you can draw unit shields on your icon with regions containing civ-specific colors. In the attached image, both Fairline's Gurkha and Bedouin units have 'disks' containing a battalion symbol (II). The mask gives the pink or yellow color. Notice that the masks contain a undiluted shade of the civ's color, unlike civ colors in the Unit Key.

Unfortunately, the Unit Key is simply stacked at a fixed (but slightly adjustable) height above the unit icon. For the sake of clarity in dense scenarios, most designers keep the key as minimalist as possible – more so than the ones depicted here.

You can be far more subtle about masks than in this crude example. Check Catfish Cave for better ones.

In all honesty I would strike myself off that list, and put Curt, tanelorn, Case, Jimmywax, Eivind, Sarsstock and a few others in instead. I really mean it; there are carloads of people better than me out there. This is undenaible fact.

As for shields, it is still technically possible to retain them in TOT in the form of flags which you can put underneath the health bar. What must be removed are the black lines which demarcate the position of the health bar in TOT.

Here are some more Swedish units in case you need them. Tanelorn's Strv 103 S-tank and a Pbv 302 APC by me.

Scandanavia is not a topic which is hotly covered in Civ2; aside from Eivind's Wessebrung and the Winter War, there are not really many scenarios based in the region, and that is especially true for the modern era. I look forward in anticipation to the Red Lion's completion. If you need any more units, I'd be happy to try and help.
