Well, given the recent mishap that happened with Gareth, I thought it best to bring up the idea of creating an off site storage area in the case of property damage.
Erm, in non accounting speak, that means I went out and opened up a free FTP site for myself just in case my hard drive crashes.
To those not familiar with the idea it basically means I found a site that gives away free website space, with an FTP upload feature. An FTP is a quick and dirty way of dropping a large amount Civ files onto someone elses server, creating, in essence, a backup for your stuff.
The site I found gives away 50MB of free space. In exchange for the space being free they place ads on any website you load up on the server. Of course, I'm never going to make a website for the space as I'm just using it for storage.
The site is called: http://free.prohosting.com/ and the FTP software I use to connect to the site is called ReachOutFxp, which I think can be downloaded for free from Tucows.com.
Anyways, this is a neat way to back up files. I'd do it for everyone here, but then there would be a fee, and this way I alone have control over my files.
If in case you need more than 50MB of space I'm sure opening up multiple "sites" will be no problem.
So in closing:
FTP site = backup = quick way of moving files (no posting size limits, can post mulitple files at a time).
