  • PBEM?!? What the hell?!

I'm here seeking sympathy from my fellow MPers. In my quest to expand diplogames to Civ3 I tried getting a Civ3-MP Diplogame going, but it sadly never went anywhere. There just aren't any MP players in Civ3 and MP is a buggy piece of crap anyways.

So at the insistence of visiting PBEMers I caved in and decided to give it a shot. PBEM is *very* active with Civ3, and lots of people play it, so I figured they can't all be crazy. Plus there were some proto-Diplogaming signs from several of the players. I had a group of interested people, so much so in fact that two seperate diplogames were started. I made a reasonably cool map (i'm a map junkie) so the game I was in got started.

Its been like 2 or 3 weeks now and I still haven't built my first warrior. So ridiculous. So painfully ridiculous.

I do like Civ3, not as much as Civ2 perhaps, but 2 is really getting old for me. But I simply am at a loss to understand how anyone can find this PBEM fun.

Traitor for abandoning PBEM or traitor for trying something other than Civ2-MP?

I never saw the fun of PBEM either... way to slow.

While Civ2 is OLD, at least it works. Rumor has it that Civ IV will be built with MP included from the beginning and be included in the first release. Maybe it will be playable

Civ3 MP is workable over a LAN

I have never had it work well over the net

and I would never play a PBEM

PBEM is slow by definition, which is one of the reasons I've never bothered with it.

Yep... it will save us from paying an extra 50 bucks to get the MP version a year after the game is originally released

                          I didn't.

I was the only one who maintained the 'boycott' or at least who lasted longer than all the others. I didn't even buy vanilla civ3 till like a year ago. For $10

As for the rest...I'll be damned if i'm gonna pay extra for the game they should have sold us at the beginning. So I got them through....other means.

the problem with civ 3 MP is that there is little to do while you wait for the other person to move. so it gets very slow very quick.

the beneifit of pbem is if you have a good group you should get about 2 turns a day, but most average just under one turn a day.

the biggest problem with civ3 players is that they just dont get "diplo" style, they think it some sort of democratic or diplomacy game. They dont understand it at all.

of course the other problem with the civ 3 forum is the amount of spam, but dont tell ming or rah i said that
