I'm pressed for time at the moment, so a quick posting of exactly how this game works would be helpful. Is it some sort of inter-site competition?

Plus, of course, a zipped file to d/l and check out.

We're playing a "best ball" succession - we all try to play every turnset and then use RCC to determine which of the offerings gives the best position - at 3000BC it was decided to run with mine - so if you wish to join in take my save - zipped to follow this and play until 2000BC ...
        Good luck

        Cheers, Stu

Welcome Rabbit ! You can find the original idea in Stu's thread, with some rules at the top of this one. Then look over the two spoiler threads the MGE team has used so far, and hop in. All the threads are in this same forum (civ2-general/help).

Jump in, JBunny! One of the virtues of this game is that you can play any turnset you want -- if you're busy, just play the set that's up when you've got time. (That's my plan.) We're delighted to have you here.

Good to see you out and about, Bunnyman!! Too bad you are a MacMan and cannot play 2.42. There seems to be a lack of participants in that venue. Is this team thing going to work??

Monk, if Elephant and skrobism don't play for team 2.42 soon, you and LaFayette can either join team MGE or play on alone. There is a chance someone (solo? straybow? STYOM?) might show up and join you. I can join 2.42 if nobody objects - but I have seen the map, the MGE spoiler, etc, and would have some advantage.
If JRabbit actively joins MGE, maybe an MGE player could switch teams? Just some ideas.

I will be away a few days, so this thread will enter a brief period of anarchy... not to say it has been exactly a "tight ship", so far. You and LF can decide about 2.42, if you want.

I could switch teams, if that would help. I've got both versions.

                    Elephants are often late...

I tried the start last night, and had a wierd occurance. I brought it to my other machine to see if it was machine-dependent, but it was not.

My thinking was: based on the visible Silk and some map analysis, there seems to be a possibility that (4,52) could be a Whale, and I noted that the fiendish game designer left that tile black. So I moved my Warrior westward first to see if it was, but despite being at (6,52) the tile stayed black! I was about to move the Settler that way when I clicked on the black tile to record its location and it turned blue! Later I went back to the starting save and experimented with it. Moving the Settler SW only turns one quarter of the tile blue (the quarter closest to the Settler, which still does not tell you if there is a Whale).

I tried this at home on an XP machine running 2.42, then tried it at work on a Win98 machine. I have not seen this action before - could it be the result of "Cheat Mode" editting of visible terrain? I'm puzzled.

Also when I clicked "End of Turn" the game clock stayed on 4000BC - looks like it was reset as well. I wonder if the Turn Number was reset too - could affect some of the Restart percentages that Andu Indorin has been discovering.

E - Glad to see you here!! I confess to messing around in cheat mode with the turn number and techs, but not with the terrain or specials.

I noticed the repeat 4000 BC too.

Peaster, most of the land specials are hidden -- you really didn't do that?

Well, I'm not using it for play -- all I did was verify for myself that there was an exceptionally high percentage of "missing" specials. Still, the irony is wonderful!

I usually use a blank map in MapEditor, drawing things in as I explore. In this one it took a while to figure out the Resource Seed, due to the missing huts and hidden specials. I think I had four possibilities at the start, narrowed it to two when I found the Whale, and finalized it when I found the hut.

                                News from the 2.42 team

Here is the situation a few hours before the end of 2004:
Elephant and La Fayette are the active players. Bloody Monk is lurker and adviser. skrobism is supposed to be a member of the team, but hasn't posted yet.
Elephant's save has been chosen in 3000BC. I have played the next millenium. Anyone willing to join us is welcome.

BTW Peaster have you a deadline in mind (for the choice of the 2000BC save) ?
