12 years for one campaign ...
Are we talking about 12 real years or game years here?
I never got into AD&D - it was too geeky, even for me and my very geeky friends. We did play a hell of a lot of Doom though.

Well, think some explanation about the 12 years are needed!
I was, of course, talking about real years (what, do you mean game years aren't real?? )!
But the term "campaign" might be a bit too strong: actually we played a series of (sometimes very loosely) connected scenarios in a definite world (Greyhawk was a part of it, but the players didn't get to see much of it actually, mainly the western part). (Slavelords was played though). And I of course did some experimentation with extra-dimensional gates (my players didn't really like facing Attila and his horde... )
It wasn't a campaign as such, in the sense of everything converging to 1 specific goal! It was more various characters evolving in a continuous background!
Not sure my explanation was really clear...
Anyway, bring me that 2-handed sword wielding warrior!
Just a comment: I had nearly decided not to use one of the 2 dragons I required, until I saw Catfish brilliant work: now, I have to use them both, and so need to find another unit to suppress...
I played AD&D for about 15 years before retiring about 4 years ago (too much time commitment, not enough players).
I remember the Against the Giants series (the lot of us died, thanks to some extraordinary bad dicerolling ) all the way through to Night Below (victory) and Return to Tomb of Horrors (characters from a 4 year long campaign all died there, too ).
Like you, Cyrion, I tried the computer RPGs and found them lacking - no taunting, no bad jokes. And eating huge amounts of snack food alone is no fun

"A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic." - Joseph Stalin (attr.)
@STYOM: your RPG background sounds remarkably similar to mine! (we even started and stopped around the same time... but the last years saw less snack food and more good wine)
And if you want to see this scen soon, then help me...
@all
I found most of the units I need, or at least the basis for them, but there are still a few where I desperately need your help!
BTW: all the units I found are based on work from Curtsibling, Fairline or Favoured Flight, so I would really prefer unit in that style so that they all go well together.
Here they are:
1) I need a Warrior in chain mail wielding a two-handed sword! I didn't even find a bad looking one, I never saw a 2-handed sword unit actually!
2) I need a good"combat engineer": I would like a "engineer" unit that looks as if it could fight too (as it will have decent fighting stats)
3) a horn (like the one used to bring down the walls of Jericho! ) (it was made by a demon, if this can inspire you...)
4) 3 units from an evil, powerful tribe from ancient times: a wizard/cleric, a warrior and a noble (warrior too); I imagine them rather dark!
5) and last, for those familiar with the dragonlance series, a Draconian; and for those not so familiar: they are humanoid created through corruption of dragon eggs, so they are humanoid with a kind of "dragon look", and with wings which allow them to glide (parachute anyone?? )
Graphics:
1) the base for all the units (except 3-5) has been found; the slight modifications still needed should be doable even by me!
2) I found 30% of the needed shields, requested 30 other %, and still need to decide about the rest; ditto for the flags
2) the terrain are 95% definitively chosen, and what is still needed is rather more for atmosphere than seriously needed
3) the cities still need to be chosen, but I'm sure that everything I need lies somewhere in Curt's creations
4) icons and people: not started, but as I need nothing really "exotic", I'll easily find it once I decide to work on that part
Rules:
1) Tech tree: the tech tree has been drawn, written, and it loads without crashing the game (that's a nice 1st step, isn't it?? )
2) I'm starting to fidget with the units stats, but to do that more efficiently I would like to find an xls "combat" file I saw sometimes on this forum (but which I am unable to find right now) Anybody knows what I mean and can provide it??
Map:
1) the map is done, and only requires minor modifications which will take place during my alpha-test
2) about 50% of the cities have been placed; they still need to be developped to the level I want
Gameplay:
1) as soon as I am happy with the units balance, I'll start testing some "invasion" steps
2) and I still need to write (and test) the events; as I don't want anything exotic (i.e. something I haven't tried in Discworld), it shouldn't be too difficult!
Text files:
1) the description will be written during Beta-test!
Did I forget something??
So all in all, I plan to release tomorrow!
Just kidding Hopefully before Summer, but I wouldn't bet on it...

- It will be for the "lesser Civ version", MPGE
Just sent you an email. Oops! The version I sent has extra bonuses that work for only for ToT , but the calculator itself works for both.
I started to play with the units stats (thanks for your utility, Boco! ) and have been doing a few other things as well:
1) around 2/3 of the cities have been placed, named and developed to what I want them to be (actually there won't be many cities, probably less than 50 all included)
2) The first event is written and tested; I'll start with the others soon
3) The first step of the invasion is currently under test, and seems to work as I want!
So, all is going well, and I think a betatest before Summer is possible!
I'll be away for 10 days, so don't expect any update before I come back: I won't take my computer on the beach...
