  • Let's see, they tossed in President's day, which we don't normally get, and my favorite one, spring festival day (which just happens to be Good Friday, but heaven forbid it being listed as a Christian holiday)
Oh well, it was probably some pagan holiday before the Christians. But I'd like to know what it meant originally, that's what is frustrating about renaming all these holidays for political or religious reasons. I swear we're getting closer and closer to a Festivus Day for the Restofus... Oh yeah, Kwansaa

Anyway, I'm feeling under the weather (must be withdrawal symptoms from not hitting a golf ball) but I can play tonight. I'll be on Trillian asap...

    • That was a fun game last night

At this point, I'll be looking for a late game. I'll post if that changes.

      • Hey rah... My wife and daughter are going to "regionals" this week. They leave mid week, and won't be back until Sunday

So I should be available for an early Saturday game again. Hopefully this time, we can actually play a long game instead of multiple short ones.

        • Hey, I am interested in joining some MP games, but I live in aArgentina.. any idea if there'll be troublesome lag? That is, of course, if there's no problem with me joining...

          And some questions:

How long do sessions generally last?

Through which means are the games arranged? (I'm guessing ICQ)

I'm missing lost of stuff and I will only remember when i press the 'submit reply' button, right?

oh, and I'll probably won't be able to do it on a regular basis, is there any problem with that?

          • Hi N35t0r... we are always looking for fresh blood.

The fact that you are playing from Argentina shouldn't cause any problems... however, it has more to do with your connection speeds for lag than anything else. Do you have a broadband connection? But we play with some dial up people, and it usually isn't a problem.

One other problem might be time zones.. I always thought Argentina was only two hours ahead of the central time zone in the midwest... your time on Apoltyon shows you are three hours ahead of us.

But again... we always welcome new players.
You might want to read the rules the group that uses this thread plays by...

If these rules sound ok, we usually play on Friday nights starting around 7 - 8 pm central US time. We also play games on Saturday night... an early game can start as early as 5 pm, and then sometimes there is a late game ranging from 9pm to 11pm for a start.

We like the games to go at least 3 to 4 hours... but the longer the better since they never get continued. They are one night stand type games.

If you are interested, post your intent in the thread, but we usually collect people via ICQ. (feel free to add me to your list... but mention that it's civ related so I authorize you)

Sometimes, we already have enough players long before we start... but many nights, we are looking for more players.

So check out the thread, and if the rules don't turn you off... keep on posting in this thread, and we will see what can be worked out.

            • Well, I'm using a 1 mbps broadband connection, so it shouldn't be a problem then ^_^

And we're 2 hours ahead of EST, but it changes during (your) summer due to DST... Not that it's a promblem ATM.

About the rules, i've read them, and there's no problem with them (though I doubt I'll use the hut finder or do much black clicking), I do have some questions though:

Upgrading warriors to muskets upon discovery of gunpowder is allowed, but further production of warriors after the discovery is not allowed.
Does this mean ignoring the 'build orders out of date' and continue producing warriors in a city? (when owning Leo's) If so, does it only apply to warrior -> muskets? (so, can i do something similar with horses -> knights -> dragoons for example?)

              Also, under allowed
clearing settler orders (to increase their productivity)
Is there something I don't know, or is it just cancelling the orders and continuing later if hostiles aproach?

              • Naw it means no infinite warriors upgrading to muskets.
Only the one you build when you get leos. one per city max if all cities were building warriors. After that, you must switch the build. Same for other types of upgrades.

                Clearing settler orders is allowed.
In 2x1x it is faster to do something for a settler if you keep clearing the orders every turn vs just leaving the orders in place. Try it on roads in mountains and see what the difference is.

                      • Yes, I'm tired of having the potential for an early game on saturday fall through. Let's plan this puppy. Maybe a 5:00 start. (or earlier if my nap doesn't conflict )

And N35t0r, clearing orders is also sometimes referred to as preworking, for those instant fortresses.

Yes, I know about preworking... What I didn't know was that settlers work faster if you clear orders each turn on 2x prod. games...

                          • Yeah, it took us a bit to figure that one out.
It's like converting units to non-units (which we don't allow) You figure it out by accident, usually making a mistake.
