  • Scenarios from the community: Star Trek: Dominion War

I usually play scenarios at deity level, but the author, Kobayashi, warmly recommended to play this one at Commodore level (equivalent to King, I suppose).
Victory achieved on day 164, and I must say they were 164 days of fun: nice graphics, great sounds and, last but not least, very good playability.

    Details next post.

ATTENTION PLEASE : NEXT POST IS A SPOILER

DON'T READ THIS IF YOU INTEND TO PLAY THIS SCENARIO WITHIN A FEW DAYS OR WEEKS

No time to get acquainted: the first turns are a massive attack against Bajor by combined Dominion and Cardassian forces. The choice is really given to retreat to a safer area, but we chose to fight, which means sending all available units to and around Bajor.
Hectic battles and heavy losses, but we managed to keep the planet.
    What to do now?
The Federation (us) is a Republic and seems to be weaker than either the Dominion or the Cardassians.
My choice is to completely avoid attacking before we get much stronger, research better units as quickly as possible, find out which unit is Freight and send many of these to remote Klingon fat planets demanding our commodities.
The problem at this stage is that building cannon fodder for the mighty Dominion and Cardassian ships is unavoidable, since our foes endlessly come to us with greedy vessels. We wish to build Freighters, but if we build too many, we get hammered in the meantime.
After 30 days or so on the edge of the razor our first delivery brings a nice bonus over 200"g" (and beakers .
We feel better, because we have discovered in the meantime that some more research will allow us to bring stronger and cheaper torpedoes (namely "quantum torpedoes"), which are in fact a weak kamikaze unit: all enemy ships usually resist one of them, but no enemy ship resists MANY of them.
After about 20 more days of building a mix of Freighters and Torpedoes, only losing two planets and being able to take them back, we feel that the moment has come to play our wildcard: celebrate and grow as big as we can, since we are a Republic (WLT"La Fayette "D).

      DON'T READ
if you intend to play this scenario tomorrow

After a while we feel that we are now stronger than our foes. Most of our ships seem to be weaker than most enemy ships, but we know that we can build dozens of quantum torpedoes if needed.

      This means: ATTACK!

We choose to take care of our stronger enemy, the Dominion, first. There are 2 good reasons for that:
      1) The Cardassians are rather quiet and have strong defences outside their planets.
      2) The Dominion planets are split in 3 groups (west, north and "beyond the wormhole") and we should be able to stop them if they send reinforcements from one group to the other.

No major problem from then on. Heavy losses on both sides, but we can manage it. Day after day, we get stronger and they get weaker.
Several times we think that victory should be within a few days, but the author has planned some nasty surprises which make the endgame spicy
