  • Quick basic question from an old geezer with a fading memory!

    I am wondering:

Can the AI diplomats or spies steal techs marked with the 'no, no' preqs?

I know the AI can't demand them, but can the see them when it comes to stealing tech?

    Advice appreciated!

I'm pretty sure that they can.

I agree with case. If you bother to listen to a new member, my guess is that as long as your civ actually OWN the tech, of course those communist bastards can steal it from you :|

        Actually . . . . .

"No, no" techs CANNOT be traded or stolen. They DO appear in your advisor's list of techs, for both your civ and others, so you can see them, but for the game purposes, they do not exist. This is how one assigns techs for civ-specific units.

Although my own experiments indicate that you cannot base an improvement on a "no/no" tech--it will be automatically converted to "no" preq by the FW/MGE editor--that doesn't mean that the improvement won't function. It will, but no civ will be able to build the specified improvement.

And Curt, you are NOT an "old geezer."

        I am.

I think I'll change "If you bother to listen to a new member" to "Don't bother to listen to a new member". :P

No problem, Anvil. I'm an old hand at this and I am still learning things.

Exile, who uses the editor anyway?

The problem with no, no, techs and the scientific advisor is that you can't get the civilopedia entry for them, so the links for the following techs go back one space, and if you have several no techs in the middle of the list, then by the end of it the links are very screwed up...

                Great!

I had the industrial and modern era techs and assoc'
city styles geared to certain civs and was worried a
spy may steal those techs and then have the city style too!

                Now I can proceed!

N35t0r: Man, it's irritating to write your name like that. But I didn't post just to say that. That "back-an-entry" phenomenon, for me, only happens when investigating other civs' technologies in the embassy window (I have FW, maybe the glitch is total for MGE). The science advisor just lists them as having a prerequisite of NONE.

I also have a quick question so I though I might as well post it here. I just hope someone can answer..

Is there any way to prevent the erasing of all the barbarian units, when a changeterrain event takes place?

Example: For my upcoming scenario, I have impassable units that are owned by the barbarians. If a changeterrain event is executed, all of these dissappear and that's bad for gameplay.

I think the barbarians needs to own a city for that not to happen.

Hmm, thanks for the tip. I will test this.

Edit: Tested it, and it works. Thanks Henrik!

IIRC, it is possible to steal nonoes in CiC, but not in FW/MGE/ToT.

Huh. Do you suppose they deliberately encoded it to allow "unstealable" techs, or is it just a side effect of other changes?
