WORLD WAR ONE: HIGHWAY TO HELL

Basep upon Harry Turtledove´s the following Great War Series about the Confederate States winning the American Civil War and in 1914 both American nations line up on different sides of the European Alliances ... Here you go, command the nation of your choice and lead it and its allies to victory ...

    SITUATION DESCRIPTION
When the Great War engulfed Europe in 1914, the United States and the Confederate States of America, bitter enemies for five decades, entered the fray on opposite sides: the United States aligned with the newly strong Germany, while the Confederacy joined forces with their longtime allies, Britain and France. But it soon became clear to both sides that this fight would be different - that war itself would never be the same again. For this was to be a protracted, global conflict waged with new and chillingly efficient innovations - the machine gun, the airplane, poison gas, and trench warfare.

    DIPLOMACY
As this is intended to be a PBEM ('play by e-mail') scenario the diplomacy options have not been disabled. The scenario kicks off with all powers but Italy already involved in the war. Italy is quite weak so the Italian leader shall try to get as good a bargainfor entering the war ...

    MISCELLANOUS INFORMATION
No pollution will appear, many, many events are triggered either by events that you can control, many will appear without enabling you to do anything about them until they are triggered!

THE MAJOR POWERS OF THE WORLD

CENTRAL POWERS - The Emerging Giant
The emerging power in Europe, Germany and the 'Warden of Middle Europe', the old Austrian-Hunganrian Empire found theirselves in an epic struggle against the older powers. Can you bring Germany up to the best spot under the Sun?

CONFEDERATE STATES - Feudalism in the 20th Century
Having defeated the United States twice in the past 50 years, the Confederacy ison top of the world and allied to Russia, France and the United Kingdom, forming the Quadruple Entente. Confederate President Woodrow Wilson struggles to hold together a Confederacy still beset by ignorance, prejudice, and class divisions.

UNITED STATES - Mad for Vengeance
After the assassiniation of the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand President Theodore Roosevelt rallied the diverse ethnic groups of the northern states - Irish and Italians, Mormons and Jews - under the Stars and Stripes to bring the United States victory against its foes at last. Forced to yield in the War of Secession and the 2nd Mexican War the U.S. is eager to win this time ...

    ENTENTE CORDIALE (France, United Kingdom)
The longest allies of the Confederate States, the United Kingdom and theFrench Republic, are about to put their emerging enemy, the German Empire, down again to go on ruling the world. Though well-prepared and equipped, the Allied forces lack a decent equivalent to the Schlieffen Plan.

OTTOMAN EMPIRE - The Weak Man at the Bosporus Straits
As the title says, the glorious days of the once famous Ottoman Empire are long gone. Alligned with the Central Powers and the United States stands the Turkish Sultan, eager to seek revenge on the Balkan Alliance who defeated the Ottoman Empire in 1912. The main advantage for the Kaiser is that the Ottomans control the main supply route of Russia, the Bosporus Strait, cutting Russia off its Allies.

    RUSSIAN EMPIRE - The Steamroller
Allied with France for years the Russian Empire sent it about sending its vast forces westwards. Russia has the world´s largest army but the niveau of the recruits is not too high and the Tsarist Regime just survived a
Bolshevik Insurrection in 1905, only a few years ago ...

    ITALIA - The Sideliner
The Kingdom of Italy was bound to Germany and Austria-Hungary before the outbreak of the war but the Italian Government gambles high and only enters the war for substantial loans and territories though the Italian Army might not be as well prepared as it should be ...

Looks great. Interesting idea as well. I only wonder why the Confederacy is allied to the Entente, and not to the Central Powers... but then, my knowledge on this particular period of history is close to 0.

For those about to rock- we salute you!

Very cool jim... Irish 1916 rebels and all.

What map are you planning to use? As I've suggested to others undertaking Turtledove scenarios in the past, take a look at Scott F's 'The Great War' for ideas.

Wow jim, I can see that you've followed the book very well. All the Mormons, Marxist negro and Irish rebels are recreated here. I take it you are using the Blood and Steel map for this. ANy plans to simulate the other theatres of fighting? (eg. South America, Pacific)

Hmm... Highway to Hell... thats new. I remeber that the books in the Great War series were American Front, Walk in Hell and Breakthroughs. But I guess calling it American Front will be kind of inaccurate since it includes Europe.

BTW, didn't the USA use the A7V in the series?

The topic sounds excellent, and the units look great!

          I'm eager to see this!

I just hope the map won't be too big, and the units too numerous... (yes, I'm lazy... )

In the books it was England and France that intervened and forced an armistice in the Civil War and then again helped the Confederacy in the Second Mexican War by attacking and in some places invading the United States. The US in turn found a friend in the Prussians after the Second Mexican War and joined WWI on their behalf.

@ Jimmywax: Man, how fine you are still posting at Poly!

Ok, fellas, please follow this here link to get your hands on this scenario!

I would like to state a few more things:

                  (1) A huge Thank you! goes to Fairline! Without your graphics this scenario would look even more odd!

                  (2) Another huge Thank you! goes to Curt Sibling! I borrowed some of your ideas for City Improvements and Technology names.

The tech tree is very similar to the one in Curt's Kaiser scenario, I only changed some technologies. So the honour therefore goes to Curt!

                  (3) Have fun!
