  • Two rulers for one race?

In AOE and AOK, a buddy and I found it was possible (and easy) to play the same race. This was quite fun - one could run the city (and all the unit building) while the other campaigned against the computer.

Is such a thing possible with Civ2 (specifically, TOT)? Can two people play the same race? I know about succession games, and we'll try that too, but we'd really like to spend some time working on the same empire simultaniously.

I use to do this with my brother (because we only had one computer)

one of us would control stuff while the other watched, than we would switch

The prob here is that we are 1500 miles apart.

I used to do that with friends playing F15 strike eagle. One guy would fly, one guy would be the RIO and do all the keystrokes. Cool fun, that.

Speaking as an amateur designer for Civ2 I can tell you that simultaneous play as the same civ is impossible - at least as far as I know. You could try a succession game as you mentioned or you could try something a little more involved.

You could conceivably play as one civ and your friend another and decide on a client state arrangement under a full alliance. You could be in charge of the military while he could be in charge of terrain development. Money could be interchanged depending on your alliance needs. You would do best to share territory.

That's the best I can think of.

THats kinda what I was thinking about, too. I think there is an option to illuminate the others cities (capital?). Otherwise, we could exchange maps first thing and get the same effect.

The only problem (and this is a silly one) is that we are good friends, yet extreamly competative. In AOE/AOK, it wasn't an issue - we WERE the same race. But when we tried Rails Across America (with the idea that we'd have to be first and second place to really "win" as a team), it became obvious that while we might be first and second, there was a real issue as to who was actually first.

Still, with Civ set on real high settings, we'll probably be too busy trying to keep our heads above water than to worry about whose first and all...
