  • Apolyton seems to be the source of my massive spams emails

Not jumping to a conclusion here but these are the facts:

    * my old ozemail email, registered in my contol panel here, gets 1`000's spam a week

    * another Apolyton login called pikemann also gets 100's spam a week. The email for pikemann is only registered at Apolyton - never used anywhere else on the net and uses another ISP

    * my new email, which uses the same ISP as pikemann but not known at Apolyton, gets NO spam email whatsoever

(pikemann is on another computer on the same home network but is upstairs and is occasionally used by other family and friends)

    any thoughts?

Sounds like the spammers have harvested the email addresses stored on this site. You should post this in the Apolyton Community forum.

lmfao... well Ming, does this kind of marketing practice garnish the same respect for those running this "for the gamers" effort?

selling e-mail accounts is the LOWEST of the *ing LOW to gain sustainable income; regardless of whether or not we get a "free" service in return. Learn how to market according to common sense and at least somewhere below the highest irritation factor, you *ing inept Greco/Canadian douchebags

Zylka, I sincerely doubt it's like that.

Spam is much more likely to originate from bot or worm programs than Poly ads. And I am extremely confident that MarkG & Co are NOT selling personal information.

Emarketeers are continuously efforting new ways to harvest target addresses, and even eternal vigilance is no guarantee they won't worm their way in.

          1. The ACS sitemasters should have a look at their database structure, for sure.
          2. Discussion should move to Community.

Mark and Dan DO NOT SELL any information or give any of the Apolyton information to anybody. If you email address ever appeared in a post (or signature), it was harvested automatically... (my ming account at apolyton became unusable, and I finally dropped it) If it hadn't been posted, it could have been harvested manually by somebody going through peoples profiles (if you elected not to hide your email address, people can find it) It only takes one such case to eventually end up on thousands of lists... Or, somebody could have been pissed at you and used your email address to sign up for some site where they do sell/distribute the list.

I wasn't suggesting anything sinister on the part of Apolyton but from what I can gather it seems that maybe more site vigilance and more overt warnings may help. Like Ming my old email, that I really wanted to keep (which was never used in my sig) was rendered useless. It appears that if it was not in my profile at Aployton it would have been OK. Thaty's pretty amazing since I've been using it since 1995 all over the net and yet my favopurite site is the possible culprit!
