  • Hidden specials in the ocean

Playing a little bit with the cheating possibilies of the game, I found out that there are also hidden specials in the ocean!.
Depending on the fish-or-whale type of the specials, you will get jungle, swamp, iron - every possible special when you create a piece of land in the ocean on the right tile (see also Scouse Gits' thread Making the most of Specials ).
The game is always surprising - I think, most of you didn't know that, too.

All maritime specials out of reach of land are routinely removed by the game - this means that if - in extremis - you are forced out to sea in a trireme the sight of a maritime whale heralds land within reach.

Re: Hidden specials in the ocean

The pattern covers the entire map, land AND sea. This is not new; however, my game does not allow me to "create a piece of land in the ocean." That I did not know.

Use the cheat menu - change terrain.

          IMHO....

Cheating is bad for you...and for the game.

Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you should.

Not that I'd ever see any reason to do this, I'm curious. When you're referring to hidden ocean specials, are you talking about places where there should be a special within reach of land, but there isn't one? Or are you talking about the places out at sea where there should be a special, but there isn't one because it's too far away from land?

By the way, I used the cheat menu to learn more about terraforming.

using the rules.txt, you can make it so that ocean squares can be transformed. I haven't actually tried this myself, but if it works, you could put an engineer on a ship and unload to wake it, then do its work, like you did to railroad ocean squares back in civ1
