      But right now I'm struggling to complete my Dirty turn, so I won't go yet.

            Green landscape and 3 starting techs: could be worse !

            3950:
            Hut = archer

            3850:
            Carthage (coastal, with a whale)

            3750:
            Utica (coastal with a fish)

            3650:
            Alphabet

            3300:
            Code of Laws (Monarchy not offered > we choose Currency)

            3000:
            Time to retire, with a wandering archer close to the Northern coast of our island and a wandering settler close to where he intends to found our third city (coastal with coal).

                  Ah, a new map to settle on. A big one I see. I built too many roads. But at least I refrained from mining the coal so far.

                  3000 Examine Map. Our capital location is (423,29) That's on the Wide Side. I think Magellans and Lighthouse are mandatory. Monarchy will be the next tech demanded unless we are stupid and pop the hut. Buy 2nd row in Utica. Science: 26 /39, 4 beakers/turn. Press ENTER
                  2950 Thought about mining the coal... if we didn't need that extra beaker for the next advance, I might have done. Oh, we can't get it because we won't be on a grass square soon enough. Hmm... Oh well, better to do it in Monarchy when the growth penalty is not so onerous.
                  2900* Another island spied to the West
                  2850 Malaca founded on coast near coal. Another hut to not open found.
                  2800 Currency=>Monarchy (60) at 5 bk/turn
                  2750 Nice city site with Whale and Silk foud in the north.
                  2700* Malaca warrior starts to explore. We will pop this hut and hope for no science (it's in the city radius, so no barbs.)
                  2650
                  2600 hut: Mysticism. Packing my toothbrushes.
                  2550 Utica builds settler
                  2500*
                  2450
                  2400 Carthage builds settlers
                  2350
                  2300*
                  2250
                  2200
                  2150
                  2100* Monarchy=>Maps
                  2050 gov: Monarchy. The Dean proclaimed Senior Lecturer of the Institutional Monarchy!
                  2000 Hand over the reins. one settler is possibly in a good spot, the other closing in on a whale.

                    What must be punished is that you knew it and yet you did it (I mean popping that hut and delaying Monarchy).

                      True enough, LF - but at least I waited until we were researching Monarchy and cost only 4 turns, as opposed to opening it on my first turn and perhaps delaying it for 15 or more turns. Or opeing the other hut too and really screwing up the start...

                      I am still unsure about the wisdom of mining the coal in 2950BC. In retrospect, I wish that I had done it - and certainly I should have mined the coal instead of building roads. The turns lost to mining might be repaid in increased production by 1000 BC. OTOH we would be one city smaller. These are the kind of decisions that I have trouble seeing clearly.

                        Well I tried to open the save, but for some reason, my PC was not up to the task -- maybe JRabbit can do the mac to mac trick.

                          Unzip & append a ".sav" to the file name - works a treat.

                          Will be able to play in a couple of hours - feel free to pre-empt me if you are able to do so.

                            Grigor -- always change the file name to a PC-friendly format of max 8 characters and append a ".sav" before zipping. As Mac users, we have a responsibility to the Gates Dominion.
