Actually it is better to expand slower on deity and if you get advanced tribes that are far away and you get too many of them the game is basically over because those cities are useless and all it does is raise the riot factor on the cities you do have that are useful. Add in someone starting with 4 whales within 3 squares of their capital and you aren't going to get HG and anyone who says HG on deity isn't that great is ****ing stupid I have never lost a game where I got HG on Deity. So Deity forces you to play at a lower level lest you be destroyed by the settings...that's some real skill.

That's true. An early sprawl is worth little in such settings; it's all about the core. You can have a good %30 more cities than your opponent even in 2x deity and still get nailed if you haven't maintained a proper center
in any case, Deity is doing fine in this game with his regular weirdo strat chosen. Wrong thing to use, but he at least uses it right.

I reckon we owe warlon a BIG CONGRATULATIONS!
Recently I was thinking he was another loser/quitter who bowed out when things went wrong but with a bit of encouragement he turned it round and now is a respected player.
He lost this game and retired with our support when left with only two cities = civ crumbled.
But the point is he played it out with attitude (even killing my vet tri with diplos on board) and with a bit of fun in the end - "... we will never surrender"
Not many players stay on to this bitter end; even many great players either quit or concede often ruining the game when faced with annhilation.
BUT warlon played on, within the rules and the game can still continue without him quite successfully because of his commitment and fairness.
warlon, I look forward to playing you in the next game. Keep this slot free!"Old age and skill will overcome youth and treachery. "
