Let's just say he does not seem to have played a lot of Conquest or Leo's Upgrade lately... nor have I...

It's all in good fun. Like all God's creatures, old MP players deserve our consideration and respect.

(p.s. See the new MP strategy guide in that forum)

Hmmm, that strategy guide was a bit sparse.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

              Rah,

              Sparse?

              By necessity, I’m afraid.

              (sighs)

Oh feckless MP warrior, let me try to explain:

Your MPer is like a mighty lion, King, nay even Emperor, of the Civ II jungle.

Does he creep, slither, or spin cunning webs to ensnare his enemies?

No, he boldly struts to and fro, emitting powerful roars, challenging any and all within his domain. Blessed by a mind undistracted by strategic thoughts, he can attack quickly and with precise force, pouncing on unsuspecting newbies before they have time to react.

When one of these magnificent beasts approaches, can its aggression be dissauded by trade agreements, offers of assistance, overtures of peace, or by rational and intelligent discussions?

Never! We can only shiver and tremble like mice, and hide under a bush. When a vet MPer appears upon the horizon, all we can do is just cower, wait, and hope it goes away!

So, there it is in a nutshell. Seems obvious now, doesn’t it?

Wow!! That GP dude really wrote an interesting article. And not a trace of spam.

Wonder if he still is interested in Civ2??

That was a good article, and is a testament to the depth of this game. Many "discoveries" are just re-discoveries, but there still is a lot going on recently that is really new, giving the game addtional leases on its long life.

Thanks to TCO for pointing it out.

Yep. Lots of new discoveries. The article goes on about OCC which is still fun. In a similar vein, the recent attention on Early Landing Strategies and EL challenge games (thanks Solo) spur renewed interest.

Back in 1999, the OCC record was 1863. What is it now?

With Samson's great random start using a small map, Ribannah managed something like 415 AD.

With my custom "river" map and with the scenario option turned on to allow spaceshipo construction, I managed 25 BC.

With that same map, but starting with some extra engineers and spies, Ribannah landed sometime before 500 BC.
