Jrabbit's proposal is OK, provided it doesn't lead to messing up the archive.

Certainly Succession/Comparison games deserve their own forum every bit as much as PBEM and iirc 3 democracy games.

General/Help per se is seldom used outside the games we post there -- just an occasional inquiry. Similarly, Strategy is rarely used for new topics these days. It's mostly a gateway to the GL. That's why I suggested combining them.

Civ2 is well-explored. Its fora should emphasize where its current popularity lies -- in the various ways it is played, keeping this game fresh and vital for all.

It seems my proposal has some support. Interested to see what Stu thinks. Let's find a consensus and bring it to the site owners!

I agree, but my questions still remain:

Is it technically possible to reorganize forums? More intimately...

          1. Is it possible to join two forums?
          2. Is it possible to take several tens of threads and move them to the new (Succession/Comparison) forum?
          3. Is there any volunteer for such a work among us?

            I like jrabbit's suggestion

I don't think the general should be dropped......this is the right forum for general Civ2 related queries. But given the extent of succession gaming it probably deserves a reference.

                FYI:
About a year ago I had a PM discussion with Ming re the prospect of creating a Succession/Comparison forum - we decided that doing this would effectively kill off General/Help and possibly even Strat as well

My proposal was predicated on the assumption that there could not be a thread reorganisation, just a re-naming -- perhaps, given the obvious 12-3 agreement in favour of some new approach, we should make some polite enquiries as to what is poaaible and what just ain't going to happen ...

I'm interested that we've yet to have, if not an "official" response, then at least a response from an official - probably Ming saying that it would take hours to identify what went where and a huge amount of time to switch them all.

I must be quite conservative, although I am not that old
I voted to keep it that way.

I think it's either a new place, specially for succession games, either like it is now. I find other names too long.

By the way, the general/help is the only one I am visiting these days (shame on me)

Why not have a look at the Strategy forum before you finish cleaning room 2953 at The Institute ?

                          Jrabbit's proposal sounds good.

And, AFAIK, it is possible to move threads from one forum to another.

I think that JRabbit's suggestion is probably best.

                                1. Yes
                                2. Yes
                                3. not me.

I like it the way it is now. I don't think we need any changes. The current form supports what has been, what is, and what is likely to happen in the future.
