        • I guess we are getting to the business side of the game where potentially people might get upset. But this is the way the game was designed. Diplo plays it's role, so to speak, but in the end someone has to try and get to AC or militarily dominate the world. I'd prefer more diplo games to get to an SS race but I keep getting drawn into wars I'd rather avoid. It always looks like I'm the war monger but I calculate when a pre-emptive strike is necessary. This happened to Drake in HOTW2. As far as I can tell, and from what I've gathered along the grapevine, this world is powder keg and will only end in all out World War. Raz lit the match, fuelled by Ljube's manipulations India blew up in a civ gobbling frenzy so the gloves are off. Diplo plays its part of course but you can't ignore the games design....

          • you know i should be the one upset here, it is my nation that is copping the brunt of the agression, but i am still here . i will be back next week , work permitting, so hopefulyl i will still have at least one city to run

deity is right, all civ games only have two endings and that is how it should be, diplo games was brought into to bring some m more life to the others who ar enot going to win, to give them something to do instwead of jsut going through the motions and watching a civ reach AC or take over the world.

Even in HOTW2, things may have gone different if I had fornmalyl joined the Allies and fought Deity, but i made a choice AND ALLOWED HIM FREE WHEEL ...yes i copped a lot of flack but it was a choice.. and i think HOTW2 was and still is the greatest game of civ ever....

This game jsut hasnt inspired the ssame greatness due to lack of diplo stuff here in poly where it suppsoed to happen out in th eopne, not secretly in icq, which appears what a lot of people have reverted to in this game.

however , this is the 2nd greatest game ever.....

              • I'll gladly take 2nd best. If that's not being too generous.

I think HOTW3 could have been as good as, if not better than HOTW2. But it wasn't.

We should have tried implementing the HOTW3 end game solution though. I really wanted to see that work.........actually! We can! With Tartars gone we suddenly have an opening in the game, we could do the Alien invasion ending! Anyone want to give it a whirl? Spice up the end game a bit?

                      • All of life's questions can be answered by the DiploFAQ:

                        7.2.1 Alien Invasion Ending
The solution finally agreed upon in HOTW3 was an ending that involved an invasion by powerful space aliens. At a pre-specified moment towards the end of the game powerful alien units appeared on the map with the intended purpose of eliminating the human race. While HOTW3 never reached the ending, a player spot was left open so when the time came a human could control the alien units and turn them against the human players. The game would end when all player's civilizations were destroyed or the aliens were driven from the planet.

This ending incorporated several approaches to the ending. It can be played either cooperatively or competitively. All players can unite under a common banner to drive off the aliens together, allowing a cooperative victory. Or if players feel their survival depends on one strong player this could end in a competitive ending, as the players fight to produce that one strong player.

For its versatility and creativity this option was chosen by HOTW3, though other options exist. Get creative.

                        • Basicly, we rig an event file with a simple text message that has a percentage chance of going off on any turn from this point. Any session that it doesn't go off, we up the chance of it going off.

Once the event file goes off, the game is over for that week. Then we recruit a 7th player to command the alien invasion force.

Basicly we have to choose our own difficulty level. The aliens will be given a certain number of starting units and reinforcements per turn based on how brave we are. The alien's and I get together and we build the scenario with their advanced alien units, and attempt to wipe ALL of us off the map. They can attack in any manner they want since they come from orbit.

The aliens will have a flag ship unit they will have to protect. If we can nuke it or hit it with like 12 vet howies or something, we win. If any of us make a spaceship we win (since the spaceship is rigged up with fusion bombs and sent to the alien homeworld). Die and you lose.

                          • Frank had the good suggestion that completion of the spaceship could be an attack on the alien homeplanet and end the invasion. That sounds like an excellent idea to me.

                            • Well instead of killing the flagship to win, how about we defeat the flagship and that cuts off reinforcements. Doesn't necessarily do anything about alien units and captured cities on the ground.

                              • Is that where aliens come down and attack everyone with someone playing the alien?
