BTW what does "birth rate" concept mean in CIV4? I know that "culture rate" expands the borders & "science rate" affects technology developing speeds, but what does "birth rate" do?

Well, Birth Rate is tied directly to food supplies - so I believe they are one and the same...or so I am led to believe ...
